Position Summary

The field engineer provides technical engineering information and support to the Project Team and provides project control support (cost, scheduling, and estimating).


Location

IDL Project’s head office is located in Prince George, British Columbia and has multiple satellite offices across western Canada including Terrace, Vancouver and Vancouver Island. This position is based out of Kamloops, with the possibility of out-of-town work at one of our satellite or project offices. There may be an option of travelling in and out on a rotational basis depending on the project.

Known as BC’s Northern Capital, Prince George is a city that offers big city comfort and convenience, but all the benefits of a smaller center. The cost of housing is reasonable, the commute is effortless and a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts.


Responsibilities
  1. Reads and understands plans and specifications, visualizing two-dimensional drawings in three dimensions
  2. Examines/inspects conditions, identifies problems and errors, and potential for cost savings
  3. Ensures compliance with all engineering standards, regulatory requirements, specifications, project procedures and design instructions
  4. Performs quantity take-offs from drawings for purchasing of materials or planning and scheduling work
  5. Conducts quantity surveys to determine progress and productivity
  6. Prepares as-built drawings to include field measurements and drafting
  7. Generates purchase orders, follows up with suppliers to expedite deliveries, and receives requests
  8. Assists Superintendent with the building of turnover packages
  9. Reviews and understand the overall project goals and provides feedback to achieve those goals
  10. Provides technical engineering information and interpretation of plans, detail sheets, and specifications for contractors
  11. May perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Degree or diploma in a construction-related field of Engineering from an accredited engineering school

1-3 years experience in a Field Engineer / Coordinator role

Knowledge of construction activities including material, equipment, cost and time requirements to perform construction tasks

Ability to read and interpret design drawings, specifications, and perform material take-off, apply labour costs, and examine in-process and complete work

Knowledge of codes that apply to industrial and commercial construction

Strong computer skills – Excel, Word, MS Project, Acrobat Pro

Outstanding communication skills and confident interacting with key contacts in verbal, written and electronic form
