Collins Military Landing Gear Stress Department is looking for an experienced, highly motivated Senior Structural Engineer to join our Military Stress Team. You will be instrumental in designing and analyzing landing gear for some of the most advanced military aircraft in the world. You will have an opportunity to collaborate with a diverse group of engineers in design, performance, test, quality, and manufacturing in various locations. You will also interact with customers assisting in technical decisions for the product you are working on.

This position is working in Hybrid model at Oakville Facility - Ontario

This position is open for relocation assistance

Primary Responsibilities:
  1. Perform strength, fatigue, and fracture analyses of landing gear structural components
  2. Construct and analyze finite element structural models using ABAQUS and/or ANSYS software
  3. Construct beam “stick” models and generate internal loads using NASTRAN
  4. Perform preliminary sizing and detailed analysis of major structural components using classical hand analysis and FEA methods in support of preliminary design effort and formal drawing release
  5. Assist with preliminary design trade studies
  6. Prepare high-quality detailed stress reports for customer review and MRB support
  7. Review drawings with other company disciplines and provide structures input
  8. Analyze structural repairs for landing gear and systems structural components
  9. Be responsible and accountable for all assigned stress tasks and their completion dates
  10. Ensure compliance to established engineering methodologies
  11. Communicate and make technical presentations to internal and external customers
  12. Able to travel up to 5% domestically and internationally when circumstances permit
  13. Perform other duties as required
Basic Qualifications:
  • Requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and typically a minimum of 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and typically a minimum 3 years of experience
  • Experience with Aerospace structures and/or components
  • Experience with an FEA (Finite Element Analysis) software
  • Experience with 2D and/or 3D modeling software
  • Successful candidate must meet all requirements under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Controlled Goods Directorate (CGD). Must be eligible to work in Canada
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with ABAQUS, ANSYS or equivalent software
  • Experience with NASTRAN/PATRAN
  • Working Knowledge of CATIA V5 or equivalent modeling software
  • Good understanding of aerospace materials and manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensions & tolerances)
  • Knowledge of ASME Y14.5
  • Ability to work autonomously or within a team environment
  • Prior Landing Gear Engineering Experience
