What you’ll be doing
As the Director, IT Project Management, you‘ll be joining CIBC’s Personal & Business Banking Technology team to manage delivery of a portfolio of innovative projects. You’ll be responsible for managing a small team of Project Managers and Project Coordinators. The Director, IT Project Management is a seasoned professional responsible for leading and directing large, complex, mission critical Technology Programs and Technology Portfolio Governance in partnership with other CIBC technology teams on behalf of CIBC business units. The role recommends policy and procedure related modifications to manage day-to-day activities of highly complex projects, as per technology’s project performance standards. The Director, IT Project Management applies leadership skills and technical expertise to ensure all project managers and projects follow Technology’s project performance standards, project delivery frameworks and business priorities. The role provides leadership to a team in establishing operational objectives and work plans, performing high tactical business planning and overseeing the delivery of multiple projects, with overall accountability for technology aspects of project outcomes.

How you’ll succeed
- Strategic development & execution - Manage the day to day project or Program activities of highly complicated project(s), in an inter-related strategic program following Technology’s project performance standards. Perform high tactical business planning and return on investment outcomes. Initiate, plan, execute, control and close out the program or project with an emphasis on project inter-dependency management. Establish department policies and procedures. Must ensure that all necessary risk assessments and risk assessment processes are carried out at the appropriate time. Must ensure projects for which they are responsible meet the requirements of CIBC’s standards, policies, and procedures.
- Portfolio Governance – Gather Project information across multiple LOBs to consolidate a Portfolio view. Participate in Fiscal Planning for the Portfolio and ensure Project Fiscal Plan governance. Facilitate and support Portfolio Level meetings required to ensure that Financial metrics for Quarters are met and ensure Business Case Governance is established align with enterprise PMO Standards
- Financial Management – Extensive management of Project/Program and Portfolio Financials including Forecasting, Accruals and Actuals alignment is required
- Relationship management - Maintain relationships with business management to identify technology needs and align application services to support those needs. Establish and maintain stakeholder, client and senior management relationships. Mentor sponsors and senior management.
- Strong leadership - Be a daring and authentic leader who is passionate about developing and coaching to bring out the best in people. Direct, motivate, develop and manage performance of the management team and key staff.
- You can demonstrate experience in: end to end project delivery and project management as an IT Director, or in a similar role (8-10 years). You deliver results in a matrix environment where they may not have direct influence on project resources. You must have previous experience establishing and maintaining stakeholder and sponsor relationships and you have experience in integration projects and keen interest in architecture and high level design.
