Senior Accountant

Dartmouth, NS

Our client, the Head Office for Charm Diamond Centres (CJ Limited), is looking for a Senior Accountant to join their team in Dartmouth. Reporting to the Controller, responsibilities will include:

  • Creation and preparation of monthly and annual financial reporting
  • Manage a team of 3 accountants
  • Analysis and continuous improvement of reporting to stakeholders
  • Identifying gaps in reporting and suggest and implement improvements
  • Calculate variances from the budget and prior year and report significant issues to management
  • Internal controls analysis and recommendations
  • Maintaining the general ledger and chart of accounts
  • Assistance with documenting accounting policies and procedures
  • Identifying gaps in dashboard reporting and suggest and implement improvements
  • Assistance with budgeting and cash flow management
  • Assistance with year-end review and month end processes
  • Improving the accounting process and enhancing the use of the accounting software
  • Designing and implementing new systems and process enhancements
  • Promoting a culture of continuous improvement and a commitment to quality
  • Providing backup for other functions in the department as needed
  • Other duties and assistance with special projects as assigned

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • 3+ years experience in accounting or financial reporting with a combination of education and experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • A strong team player with a high level of attention to detail
