We’re searching for our city’s best talent — now we just need you.The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of engineering operations, including staff development, safety, security, and maintenance of the hotel. This role requires a strong leader who can manage both preventative and demand maintenance while ensuring compliance with all relevant standards and regulations.Responsibilities include but not limited to:Supervise Maintenance Staff: Oversee and manage the performance and efficiency of the maintenance team, ensuring high standards are met.Work Order Management: Schedule and monitor the completion of departmental work orders, ensuring tasks are finished within the designated time frame.Staff Scheduling: Develop and implement monthly work schedules for all staff, incorporating their days off, statutory holidays, and departmental needs.Recruitment and Training: Participate in the interviewing process and conduct orientation and training sessions for new employees to ensure they are well-prepared for their roles.Performance Evaluations: Conduct regular performance appraisals for all maintenance staff, providing feedback and discussing results with each employee.Technical Training: Deliver regular and as-needed in-house training sessions to staff on the proper handling of mechanical and electrical equipment, including boilers, chillers, fire alarm systems, and more.Preventative Maintenance Program: Develop and maintain a comprehensive Preventative Maintenance program to ensure all guest rooms are serviced biannually, maintaining detailed checklists, schedules, and follow-ups on any deficiencies related to electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and other equipment.Contractor Coordination: Engage service contractors for regular maintenance and emergencies, ensuring work completion and comparing quotations to secure the best value before authorizing invoices.Inventory Management: Regularly verify the inventory of materials and parts, ensuring adequate supply. Prepare purchase orders and source materials at the most competitive prices.Emergency Response: Be available to respond to emergency calls related to any issues in the hotel, even outside of regular working hours.Policy Compliance: Adhere to and enforce all hotel policies and procedures, including those related to health and safety.Work in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety and its regulations by:Performing workplace inspectionsConducting information sessions (safety talks, staff meetings, standup meetings)Conducting incident investigationsEmployee trainingPerforming employee safety observationsReport any unsafe conditions immediately using the maintenance request formsFollow all company policies and procedures with regards to Health & SafetyWork in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations.Qualifications:Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a hotel or related industry.Degree in engineering field preferred.Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Ability to deal with all levels of management in a professional manner.Excellent technical background in plumbing, mechanical and electrical.Must be able to lift heavy objects.Work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.Attention to detail.Ability to stand for long periods of time.Good problem- solving skills and ability to develop conceptual alternatives.Must be energetic, enthusiastic, and self-motivated.
