ROLE PURPOSE

On behalf of the registered society’s membership, potential volunteers, funders, donors, and all stakeholders, the members of the Board of Directors oversee the governance of the society and ensure that the Connective:

  • Achieves outcomes consistent with the organization’s Vision, Mission, and objectives in accordance with its mandate and current Strategic Plan
  • Operates in a fiscally sound and prudent manner
  • Operates according to its Constitution and Bylaws, and all applicable Acts, Statutes, and Regulations, and in accordance with policies procedures that are considered best practice

STATUS

Voluntary. This position is open to applicants of all genders.

HOURS

Board members are expected to commit approximately 6-8 hours per quarter to Board business (includes Board preparation, meeting, and committee meeting time)

  • The Board of Directors meets four times a year (February, May, August, November)
  • Board Members are expected to attend Board meetings
  • Committee Members are expected to attend Committee Meetings as scheduled
  • Special events may be scheduled at any time through the year, and Board attendance is encouraged

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Responsibilities

  • An understanding of and commitment to the work of Connective, and the organization’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values
  • Knowledgeable and skilled in areas of board governance such as the not-for-profit sector, finance, human resources, volunteer management and advocacy
  • Willingness to serve on a committee
  • Attend and actively participate in quarterly board meetings
  • Support of special events
  • Promote the organization in the community

General Administration

  • Attend and be a resource to all Board Meetings
  • Be a member of Standing Committees, Special Committees, and Task Forces of the organization
  • Work with the Board to initiate and direct the development and revision of policies assuring the provision of adequate information to support sound decisions
  • Be a champion of short-, medium- and long-term goals for the organization
  • Provide feedback regarding the implementation, and evaluation of Agency services
  • Ensure effective operating and administrative procedures are developed, implemented, and reviewed regularly relating to the Chief Executive Officer
  • Hire and Supervise the Chief Executive Officer
  • Identify community needs and trends
  • Propose clear, ethical guidelines for the organization
  • Promote the development and involvement of broad-based membership
  • Ensure fiscal accountability through thoroughly reviewing financial reporting
  • Approve the annual budget
  • Approve major purchases and investments
