Job Role - EMC Network Engineer

Location - Winnipeg, MB (Onsite)

Job Description:

As a Senior Backup and Recovery Administrator (L3), you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of backup and recovery infrastructure within our organization. This includes NetWorker, Data Protection Advisor (DPA), Veeam Backup & Replication, Veeam One, Data Domain Management Center (DDMC), and NetWorker Management Console (NMC). You will play a key role in ensuring the availability, performance, security, and reporting of our backup and recovery systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, deploy, and configure backup and recovery environments including NetWorker, Data Protection Advisor (DPA), Veeam Backup & Replication, Veeam One, Data Domain Management Center (DDMC), and NetWorker Management Console (NMC) to meet business requirements and best practices.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and resolution for complex issues related to backup and recovery infrastructure, including backup failures, performance bottlenecks, and integration with other systems.
  • Perform capacity planning and scalability assessments to ensure the backup and recovery environment can support future growth.
  • Implement and maintain disaster recovery strategies and procedures for critical data stored within the backup systems.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams to integrate backup and recovery solutions with existing infrastructure components, such as storage arrays, virtualization platforms, and cloud services.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including standard operating procedures, system configurations, and troubleshooting guides for all backup and recovery systems.
  • Establish and maintain robust reporting and monitoring mechanisms to track backup and recovery performance, compliance, and capacity utilization.
  • Generate regular reports on backup success rates, recovery point objectives (RPOs), recovery time objectives (RTOs), and other key performance indicators (KPIs) for management and stakeholders.
  • Proactively monitor backup and recovery systems for anomalies, trends, and potential issues, taking corrective actions as necessary.
  • Manage Data Domain systems including setup, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices related to backup and recovery technologies, advising on potential improvements or optimizations.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and respond to after-hours incidents as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent work experience in IT Industry.
  • 10 to 15 years of experience administering backup and recovery systems in enterprise environments, with a focus on L3 support. Good in troubleshooting skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of backup and recovery architectures, including NetWorker, Data Protection Advisor (DPA), Veeam Backup & Replication, Veeam One, Data Domain Management Center (DDMC), and NetWorker Management Console (NMC).
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash) for automation and task orchestration.
  • Experience with integrating backup and recovery solutions with other technologies such as storage arrays, virtualization platforms, and cloud services.
  • Strong understanding of backup and recovery concepts, including backup types, retention policies, and replication strategies.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Certifications such as EMC Proven Professional, Dell Technologies Certified Associate – Data Protection, Veeam Certified Engineer (VMCE), or similar, are a plus.
