Job Overview
We are currently seeking a qualified Project Engineer for our growing company. This candidate will be responsible for the design completion and review from concept to final design for aerial pole line projects. This individual will work closely with project coordinators, clients, design technicians, and other engineers and must possess excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Director of Engineering;
  • Coordinate work activities with Project Managers, Project Coordinators, CAD designers, survey staff, and other Project Engineers;
  • Aerial utility outside plant design in accordance with CSA and ESA; Wind and ice loading; Separations and clearances; Detailed sag, tension, pole loading calculations;
  • Civil/Structural engineering skills for buried utility outside plant design in accordance with CSA and ESA is an asset: Trench details; Trenchless design;
  • Design minimum required vertical and horizontal separations from other buried utilities;
  • Review, QC, adjust, sign and seal Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) engineering document deliverables and assembling project deliverable packages;
  • Mentor Junior engineers and/or Engineering Design Technicians as required;
  • Prepare, sign, seal engineering reports, drawings and documents;
  • The ongoing development of Planview USL’s design standards and methodologies to further develop design and operational efficiencies.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, LabView, MATLAB, CAD, and Creo;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • The ability to handle multiple projects and conflicting deadlines;
  • Excellent time management;
  • Engineering degree from an accredited educational institution;
  • 2+ years work experience;
  • Knowledge and expertise in structural analysis and design of reinforced concrete structures, structural steel and wood elements;
  • Knowledge and expertise in SUE is an asset;
  • Minimum CAD skills;
  • Professional Engineer Licensed in the Province of Ontario with a membership in good standing.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with utility companies (i.e. electric, gas, telecom, fibre optic);
  • Experience with municipal / civil infrastructure (i.e. water, storm, sewer);
  • Buried utility outside plant design in accordance with CSA and ESA is an asset;
  • Design reinforced concrete structures such as utility maintenance chambers, pad mounted interfaces and retaining walls is an asset;
  • Design structural steel components such as conduit hanger systems attached to bridge structures is an asset;
  • Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) experience is an asset;
  • Consulting engineering work experience.

The Location

Planview USL has 3 offices – Markham, London and Ottawa. This position will be reporting to the Markham office.
