We operate full-day early learning and childcare centres for infant, toddler and preschool children, as well as extended-day programs before and after school for kindergarten and school age children in over 27 locations throughout the Greater Hamilton Area. We are looking for a Cook to compliment our team Reporting to the Program Supervisor, the cook is responsible for menu planning, purchasing of groceries and supplies and daily preparation of nutritious meals and snacks served to the children enrolled in the centre. This position will be at our Viola Desmond centre and working 30 hours per week. Why work for Us? To be considered for this role, the right candidate will have the following qualifications: Experience: Minimum 1-year experience working in a kitchen settingExperience with menu planning and purchasingExperience in a childcare setting a definite asset Education: College level Certificate or Diploma in a related field, Working knowledge of the Canada Food Guide CertificationsValid Food Handler’s certificateStandard First Aid with CPR level CSatisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police CheckProof of up to date immunizationProof of COVID-19 VaccinationsValid Driver’s license Skills: Physically capable of lifting and handling groceriesAble to drive to purchase groceries CharacteristicsExcellent problem solving, interpersonal communication and organizational skillsDemonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast pacedFlexible environment with minimal supervisionAn advocate for diversity, equality, and inclusion What will you be doing? You will work in consultation with the Program Supervisor to ensure the smooth operation of the kitchen and its coordination with the other programs of the centre. The successful candidate will:Plan lunch menus and snacks in accordance with the Canada Food GuidePost menus for parents and staffConduct housekeeping tasks necessary to maintain the kitchen is organized, clean, safe and hygienic condition at all times.Deliver and collect lunch/snack trays to and from all on-site programsMeets with the Public Health Inspector as required and ensure the kitchen and practices follow the City of Hamilton’s health codeOrder and purchase groceries in order to implement the planned menusWhen required, supervise children, scanning the area routinely to ensure safety, and recognize potentially hazardous situations so that they may be prevented.
