What is the Opportunity: 

Aecon is currently seeking an Environmental Manager to join the GO Rail Expansion (RER) project, located in the Greater Toronto Area. This transformational project is the largest capital infrastructure project in Ontario's historic GO Rail Expansion program

What You Will Do Here:

  • Identify hazards and contro l measures for site activities.
  • Develop incident management and other safety plans based on risk assessment, incorporating knowledge of safety regulations and compliance measures.
  • Foster a culture where safety is at the forefront.
  • Ensure compliance of all regulations established by all levels of government and agencies. Ensure the project is compliant with all aspects of Health and Safety, Environmental, System Safety and Quality
  • Ensure risks are understood, documented and eliminated. Introduce a mitigation plan when not possible to eliminate the risks.
  • Ensure there is a robust continuous improvement program in place for the project. Identify areas of focus for continuous improvement and make sure continuous improvement is integrated into all aspects of the business.
  • Support the implementation of new concepts in both preventative and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators that would ensure best in class performance. Modify KPIs objectives as needed to ensure various targets are being achieved.
  • Produce timely and quality periodic reports / analysis that are required. Investigate and analyze significant accidents.

What You Will Bring to the Team:

  • Completion of a diploma or degree in Engineering, Business Administration/Operations, Transportation, or related field – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) certification is a requirement.
  • 8+ years of safety experience in a construction environment.
  • Understanding of the Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety (RAMS) process.
  • Good understanding of the International ISO norm
  • Knowledge of Ontario Provincial legislation and acts.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian method for risk evaluation and assessment for railway systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a proven track record in mobilizing a successful team; ability to coordinate the efforts of others to accomplish objectives
  • Knowledge and demonstrated application of relevant regulatory requirements
  • Perform effectively in a fast-paced, start-up environment – comfortable to act with uncertainty and able to create new systems, policies and procedures with limited resources and a need to a quick yet high quality implementation
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet challenging deadlines
  • Affinity with technical and commercial terms for contract management
  • Ability to work with a diverse workforce in intercultural environments
  • Respectful, appreciative interaction with all stakeholders and team members
  • Proficient in MS Office applications
