Technical Experts – Electronic Logging DevicesStandards Council of Canada, 55 Metcalfe Street, Ottawa, Ontario, CanadaJob DescriptionPosted Friday, October 31, 2025 at 4:00 a.m.Several positions and a pool of candidatesThe Standards Council of Canada (SCC) is seeking technical experts in several fields related to the electronic logging devices (ELDs).Technical experts play a key role in the assessment of certification bodies by applying their extensive technical expertise to evaluate the competence of personnel, and the conformity of processes. They will apply their considerable technical expertise by conducting file reviews, interviews with certification body personnel and witness audits to support accreditation assessments.At this time, SCC is seeking technical experts in the application of ELD system:Certification of Electronic Logging DevicesCanadian Technical Standard for Electronic Logging DevicesCanadian and U.S. ELD regulationsCommercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) Safety and the Federal ELD mandateKey ActivitiesWorks closely with the SCC personnel to determine the scope and criteria to be assessed.Conducts interviews as part of a team, or independently, to assess the competence of personnel.Reviews certification records to assess evidence of conformity with relevant criteria.Observes the work of certification body personnel to assess the conformity to procedures and application of relevant criteria.Reports to the lead assessor on findings and provides recommendations based on evidence.Essential QualificationsLanguage RequirementsSkillsStrong technical, analytical and review skillsExcellent attention to detailSound judgement and evaluation abilitiesAbility to read, interpret and reference relevant criteria from standardsExcellent communication skills, both verbal and writtenStrong organizational and prioritization skillsStrong interpersonal skills, both within an assessment team, and with customersAdvanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications, and web-based communicationsUnderstanding or experience in the Certification of Electronic Logging Devices is considered a strong assetAbilitiesAbility to work independently or with limited supervisionAbility to effectively represent SCC and follow SCC’s policies and proceduresAbility to meet tight deadlines and work under pressureAvailability to travel within Canada and the United States, occasionally on short noticeAbility to work in a variety of industrial, commercial and manufacturing environmentsRequired Technical KnowledgeAdvanced understanding of:CCMTA, Technical Standard for Electronic Logging DevicesTransport Canada, Commercial Vehicle Drivers Hours of Service RegulationsTransport Canada, Regulations Amending the Commercial Vehicle Drivers Hours of Service Regulations (Electronic Logging Devices and Other Amendments)Transport Canada, Electronic Logging Device Test Procedures, Part 1 to 3Certification of Electronic Logging DevicesUnderstanding of Canadian and U.S. ELD regulationsFormal training in applicable fieldsUnderstanding of SCC accredited Certification ProgramAt least 3 years of experience or deep knowledge in the field of ELDsCurrent Transport Canada Technical Standard committee member is considered a strong assetApplicants must clearly demonstrate in their application how the meet each essential qualification criteria.
