Purpose
We are seeking a Rock Mechanics Specialist reporting directly to the Senior Rock Mechanics Engineer. The Rock Mechanics Specialist will provide technical support to the Mine Operations to ensure the ground control management plan is followed in accordance with the Company policies and legislation.
Responsibilities
- Conduct regular inspections of development headings to assess the condition of the ground and identify any potential hazards
- Review and recommend stope sizes, shapes and sequencing, with significant input to the production schedule
- Conduct numerical and empirical analysis and interpret outcomes to determine and estimate future rock mass behavior
- Update, maintain and analyze the stress model of the mine
- Collection and analysis of data relating to strength, stability and stress regime of rock mass
- Conduct quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) checks on ground support installations in the field
- Work on continuous improvements projects within the Rock Mechanics group
- Maintain, optimize and expand the ESG micro seismic system including interpretation and analysis of data
- B.Sc. Degree in Mining Engineering or Geological Engineering
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in Rock Mechanics working in an underground mine
- Expert in installation and operation of ground control instrumentation
- Demonstrated ability to develop practical, safe and cost-effective solutions
- Proficiency in 3D numerical modelling computer software (Map3D and RocScience suits)
- Familiarity with Deswik CAD would be advantageous
- Excellent communication skills (oral, written, listening)
- Strong facilitation and presentation skills
- Ability to positively interact with co-workers and team members
- Ability to work with a diverse mix of cultures
The preferable work schedule for the position is 2 weeks on, and 2 weeks off, working 12 hour days.
