W ood’s Homes is a multi-service, non-profit children’s m ental health centre based in Calgary. Our over 500 employees and provide more than 40 programs and services for 28,000 children and their families each year in Calgary, Lethbridge, Strathmore, and Fort McMurray.

We are currently seeking a Benefits Coordinator to work in the People and Culture Department. The Benefits Coordinator is the first point of contact for Wood’s Homes staff and is responsible for the coordination and timely handling of all matters relating to benefits, including Worker’s Compensation Board (WCB) claims.

This position reports to the People and Culture Director and will work closely with Payroll.

RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:

• Administer all aspects of the group benefit plan and pension plan including monitoring loss experience and suggesting improvements.
• Coordinate all disability, workers’ compensation and leave claims and support return-to-work plans
• Liaise between benefit providers, WCB, management and employees
• Provide guidance to management on the interpretation of benefits related to the Collective Agreement and government legislation
• Prepares all monthly remittances for benefit vendors
• Provides client service both internally and externally on all benefits related issues
• Assist other People and Culture staff when required
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:
• Degree or Diploma in Human Resource Management plus three (3) years of related experience, giving preference to exposure in a unionized environment
• Professional designation in benefits and retirement plans (CEBS, GBA, RPA, etc.) is considered an asset
• Experience with the management of benefit and payroll programs
• Experience with HR Information Systems, preferably Dayforce, is required
• Proficient in all Microsoft applications, in particular, Excel
• Good working knowledge and understanding of human resource concepts, principles, theories and practices.
• Solid problem solving and decision making skills.
• Strong organizational and analytical skills, to effectively research, coordinate and analyze, a variety of information.
• Excellent communication, organization and time management skills are required
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, discretion and tact when dealing with sensitive issues and information
