Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Construct, install, and repair equipment and machinery.
  • Diagnose equipment problems and determine repairs needed.
  • Perform daily safety and maintenance checks.
  • Repair, overhaul, maintain, and service diesel powered vehicles, heavy trucks, heavy construction equipment, graders, dump trucks, and excavators.
  • Repair, overhaul, maintain, and service fuel injection systems, exhaust systems, cooling systems, air conditioning systems, lubrication systems, engine control systems, major internal engine repairs or overhaul, installation and alignment of engines and machinery.
  • Repair, overhaul, maintain, and service electric, propane and diesel forklift, pallet jack and trailer repair.
  • Diagnose defects in heavy duty equipment.
  • Inspect, repair, and adjust gasoline and diesel-powered units.
  • Installation of new and added-on equipment.
  • Electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting and diagnostics
  • Repair mechanical transmissions, drivetrains, and final drives.
  • Test repaired equipment.
  • Clean, lubricate, and perform other maintenance work.
  • Keep detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation.
  • Other mechanical repair work as required.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

  • Proven mechanical abilities in hydraulics and electrical, including schematic and diagnostics.
  • Be comfortable performing calls independently or as part of a team.
  • Enjoy working in a high paced dynamic environment.
  • Be flexible and willing to work a rotating work schedule.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Possess a BC or Inter provincial journeyman designation as a Heavy Duty Mechanic or have equivalent practical experience.
  • Ability to recommend corrective action and implement required repairs.
  • Basic welding skills: MIG, TIG, ARC, and Gas Welding will be considered an asset.
  • Forklift and rigging experience an asset.
