Job Description:

Reporting to the Central Fill Manager and the Store Operator/Pharmacy Manager, and under the supervision of a pharmacist, this position will practice in collaboration with pharmacists to provide the best possible pharmacy services to our patients and central fill customers. The Pharmacy Technician’s primary role is to ensure prescriptions and central fill orders are filled correctly. They will always exercise professional judgment and be able to recognize when the clinical expertise of a pharmacist is required.

  • This is a 1-year term position with the possibility of an extension, or permanent position.
  • 40 hours per week.
  • The usual shifts will be Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • This position will be required to work weekends on occasion and perform weekend supervisor responsibilities when covering for holidays.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Pharmacy Technician has the independent authority, responsibility, and accountability to:
  • Prepare and process prescriptions.
  • Perform c ompounding activities including training/assessing staff, product and ingredient checks, and final prescription checks.
  • Perform a final check on filled prescriptions before the release.
  • Supporting pharmacists in providing specialized care for Long Term Care (LTC), private and group homes.
  • Checking of central fill packaging including compliance cards and pouch packaging, and coordination of orders for shipping.
  • Continuous quality control steward for all packaging.
  • Central fill customer support, training, and certification for new staff.
  • Data entry, receiving prescriptions, batch fill, and other billing and adjudication.
  • Medical prescription preparation and final checks.
  • Compounding oversight, training of compounding staff, quality improvement, and supply management ; auditing narcotics and controlled drug reports.
  • Assisting the Central Fill Manager to achieve targets .
  • S upporting pharmacists in daily tasks as needed, billing and third-party adjudications.
  • Inventory management, including participating in cycle counts, narcotic counts, inventory discrepancy investigation, and ord ering.
  • Perform administration functions, such as documentation, third-party billing reconciliations, and completing required audits.
  • Report any occurrences of adverse events and close calls to the pharmacist and disclose the event as appropriate.
  • Assist with managing the pharmacy environment by maintaining the inventory, including safe storage, and handling of drugs.
  • Oversee the maintenance, cleanliness, functionality, and integrity of compounding, packaging, dispensing, and storage equipment.
  • Comply with relevant occupational health and safety legislation.
  • Check and accept responsibility for the work of pharmacy assistants employed in the pharmacy.
  • With the assistance of information software, identify potential interactions, therapeutic duplications, and incompatibilities within patient profiles.
  • Perform quality assurance audits/checks on packaging and distribution functions and activities.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Pharm acy or Central Fill Manager.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Licenced Pharmacy Technician in the province of Saskatchewan.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certificate from a CCAPP-accredited post-secondary institution.
  • Kroll software experience is an asset.
  • Strong Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Able to work and manage time independently.
  • Professional attitude and ability to communicate well with customers and co-workers.
  • Due to this position’s sensitive nature, the successful candidate must complete a Criminal Record Check.
