Duties

The external relations and visitor experience manager leads strategies and operations related to communications, partnerships and services offered to citizens and tourists. He/she provides strategic advice to management in terms of public relations, community involvement and tourism products. As a member of the Management Committee, he/she is responsible for the sound management of their department’s financial, material, and human resources, and is the immediate superior of the external relations staff and the two historic site managers. Depending on the time of year, he/she oversees a team of 30 to 60 indeterminate, term and student employees.

Work environment

Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for protecting and presenting Canada's outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in every region of the country. The Quebec team watches over the historic treasures that are the Fortifications of Québec, the Dufferin Terrace and the archaeological crypt of the Saint-Louis Forts and Châteaux, Cartier-Brébeuf, Lévis Forts and Grosse Île.

Intent of the process

This process aims to fill a permanent position, mostly on site (1 to 2 teleworking days per week, on request). This process could also be used to create a list of qualified candidates to fill similar positions with different employee status, security levels or language profiles in the same location or across the country.

Degree equivalency

  • Recent* and significant** experience in staff management
  • Recent* and significant** experience in tourism, culture or heritage
  • Significant** experience in public communication
  • Experience in external relations (marketing, promotion, partnerships or public consultations)
  • Experience in expenditure planning, budget monitoring or contract management

  • Recent is defined as experience within the last 5 years.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - Obtain and maintain reliability status.

  • Possess and maintain a valid class 5 driver's licence.
  • Wear the Parks Canada uniform, when required.
  • Willingness to work occasionally irregular hours, overtime or on weekends and federal and provincial holidays.
  • Willingness to work and travel in different environments and weather conditions, in isolated locations and using various means of transportation.
