About this opportunity:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Conventional Engineering and Operations, the Staff Conventional Abandonment Engineer will focus primarily on the design and implementation of well abandonments. The desired candidate should have a knowledge of completions and drilling. The primary role will be to prepare well abandonment programs with detailed procedures and follow through to implementation. This may include some on-site supervision and QA/QC of the jobs, as well as post-operational and cost analysis.

This position is a full time position, located in our downtown Calgary office.

What you’ll do:

  • Provide technical support for abandonment operations
  • Prepare detailed abandonment procedures and cost estimates including documented well histories. In addition, remediation procedures for SCVF and GM repair
  • Coordinate and monitor activities of third-party service providers, i.e. cementing and perforating
  • Comply with corporate safety and environmental requirements for all work activities
  • Work closely with regulatory groups for non-routine submissions and approvals
  • Maintain an active participation within the technical community to remain current on regulations and technologies.
  • Direct involvement with operations including field trips.
  • Identify and recommend technology improvements to create value.
  • Liaise with field personnel to maintain project efficiency, from programming to look backs.
  • Ensure abandonment knowledge sharing practices are developed and maintained.
  • Mentor junior engineers

Who you are:

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng) registered with APEGA or 2 year Diploma
  • Minimum 15 years experience with advanced abandonment skill-sets including:
  • Advanced understanding of abandonment regulation in western Canada jurisdictions
  • Advanced Technical Proficiency in the following areas:
  • Cementing Design and Execution, Perforating, Log Selection and Interpretation, Interventions and Workovers
  • Demonstrated competency with Wellview and Accumap
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced work environment with dynamically shifting priorities and deadlines
  • Proven judgment, analytical, and business skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, organization, and time management skills
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentorship capabilities
