Old Toronto, Canada Amazon Full time
Software Development Manager, AWS Sustainability Tech

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

The AWS Infrastructure Sustainability Tech team is seeking a passionate, results-oriented Software Development Manager to lead the delivery of customer-facing sustainability products. The AWS Infrastructure Sustainability Tech organization builds solutions to integrate sustainability data across AWS infrastructure and operations and support AWS customer's sustainability goals, AWS' progress towards net zero carbon goal, renewable energy management, and other cross-cutting sustainability objectives. A successful candidate will have high influence across dependent technical teams and sustainability stakeholders to make strategic trade-offs between short-term opportunities and long-term customer and industry trends. Your responsibilities will involve cross-system integration, measurements, and analysis to guide measurement and mitigation efforts. Our team tackles real-world problems that don't generally have ready-made solutions.

Key job responsibilities
As the Software Development Manager, you will lead a team of Software Developers Engineers, Data Engineers, and Business Intelligence Engineers to deliver high-impact sustainability products and features. This includes driving the roadmap and delivery of the Customer Carbon Footprint Tool (CCFT), enabling the incorporation of Scope 3 emissions data, providing technical vision and delivery leadership for strategic initiatives, and partnering with various stakeholders. You will demonstrate influence and leadership through efficient and thorough communications, foster a highly versatile engineering team, and ensure exemplary technical designs and simple, flexible solutions are delivered. Key skill sets include proven ability to lead and motivate high-performing teams, strong project management and delivery skills, excellent communication and problem-solving abilities, thorough understanding of software development methodologies, and deep knowledge of cloud-based architecture. Knowledge of sustainability concepts is a bonus.

How do you know if you are a good fit for us? You are fascinated by and want to innovate in complex, distributed systems that operate at scale for the benefit of sustainability. You love customers. You ready partner across team lines between science, partner engineer teams, program partners. When our customers ask for the next big feature, you know this means you’ll be able to truly dig into the solution and get it done right. You love owning the project from idea to production, delivering not only in the implementation but in all phases from the kernel of an idea to quickly getting code into production. You enjoy collaborating with your teammates. You love working in agile programming environments and running fast to deliver evolution for your AWS services.
