One of our manufacturing clients is looking for a Senior Buyer for their plant in Newmarket, ON.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, evaluate, and onboard suppliers capable of meeting quality, cost, and delivery requirements. Develop and execute strategic sourcing strategies to mitigate risks and enhance competitiveness.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with suppliers, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement. Monitor supplier performance, resolve issues, and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Lead negotiations with suppliers to secure favorable terms and conditions, including pricing, payment terms, and contract terms. Drive cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality or service levels.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to optimize the supply chain, streamline processes, and reduce lead times. Identify opportunities for efficiency improvements and implement best practices.
  • Draft, review, and manage contracts with suppliers, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. Monitor contract performance and enforce terms as needed.
  • Stay abreast of market trends, supplier capabilities, and industry developments. Conduct market research and analysis to identify potential risks and opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain cost models to accurately forecast expenses and monitor spending. Implement cost reduction initiatives while maintaining product quality and integrity.
  • Identify and mitigate risks within the supply chain, including geopolitical, economic, and operational risks. Develop contingency plans to minimize disruptions.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements related to procurement and sourcing activities.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior members of the procurement team. Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in procurement or supply chain management, preferably in the automotive industry.
  • Strong negotiation skills with a proven track record of cost savings and value creation.
  • Deep understanding of automotive supply chain dynamics, including familiarity with OEM and Tier 1 supplier relationships.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in contract negotiation, management, and administration.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and tools, such as SAP, Oracle, or similar systems.
  • Certification in procurement or supply chain management (e.g., CSCP, CPSM) is a plus.
