ISL’s Water Team comprises a closely integrated group of 25 Engineers, Engineers-in-Training, and Technicians, delivering a broad range of Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater Infrastructure Projects. Our industry professionals specialize in Water and Wastewater Treatment, Pumping Stations and Reservoirs, Linear Infrastructure for Collection and Distribution, Water System Planning, and Alternative Project Delivery Methods. We work with key municipal clients across BC, Alberta, and Saskatchewan as well as supporting our internal clients across other engineering disciplines.

Your resume should show us:

  • 4+ years of progressive experience in construction administration and construction (consulting or contractor)
  • Degree or diploma program in engineering or construction engineering technology from an accredited post-secondary institution.
  • Design, construction administration and/or field experience, preferably for municipal water (potable, wastewater, stormwater) infrastructure.
  • Use of digital collaboration platforms and processes for integrating design and construction delivery, such as BIM and Autodesk Construction Cloud or other proprietary systems.
  • Familiarity with construction safety codes/standards, including possession of the minimum construction safety accreditation in your current province of work e.g. Construction Safety Training Systems (CSTS) from the Alberta Construction Safety Association.
  • Experience with:
    • estimating and the various types of estimating tools that you may have used.
    • different forms of contracts
    • assembling construction documents for tender and construction purposes, including writing, and preparing construction specifications.
    • coordinating, conducting, documenting, and reporting on detailed field inspections.
    • submittal reviews for compliance with specifications and coordination with Engineers of Record (EOR)
    • various project delivery models that are typically in use in the industry today whether they are conventional or alternative.
  • Experience with:
    • underground concrete construction for water retaining structures
    • deep utility installations using various methods (open cut and trenchless)
    • water / wastewater treatment facilities and pumping stations
    • using 3D, building information management (BIM) design platforms, Revit, Autodesk Plant 3D, Civil 3D (including pipe networks)

A Little More About the Role

Responsibilities:

Management / Administration:

  • Construction administration duties for projects. Organizing and chairing/leading site construction meetings, pre-construction meetings, pre-tender meetings, shallow utility meetings, etc., and providing day-to-day coordination and resource allocation amongst construction projects.
  • Playing an active role in ISL's safety committee and being responsible for QA/QC on the Water Team's safety documentation across our projects.
  • Building connections and relationships with other discipline and office teams across ISL, with the intent to better leverage skill sets and collaboration opportunities between offices including sharing best practices, balancing resources, embracing thoughtful technological change and workflow enhancement, and pursuing strategic proposal opportunities that will enhance the reputation and practice of ISL.
  • Completing quantity take offs, crossing agreements, field exploration work, and cost estimates for various design options and tendering, and construction schedule estimates. Providing technical input on constructability for designs (when required).
  • Coordination of, and development of final tender package deliverables which would be coordination of drawing packages, assembly of specification packages and contract front end documents.
  • Administering tenders and analyzing tender results along with Project Managers and helping to formulate recommendations for tender award.

Construction:

  • Working with Project Mangers to identify project needs and providing municipal construction administration services in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Administering construction contracts in the field, including:
    • Ensuring compliance to contract specifications by way of monitoring all site activities during pre-construction, construction, and post-construction.
    • Documenting site activities including preparation of daily, weekly, and monthly reports, or other reports as required by the client.
    • Coordinating/reviewing geotechnical/material test results, testing invoices, and other testing for compliance and recommending payments or not for work completed by contractors.
    • Monitoring time and materials work being completed by contractors and recommending payments accordingly (as may be required on certain projects).
    • Preparing and submitting Progress Payment Certificates and Contract Change Documents to Project Managers for review and approval.
    • Preparing, coordinating, and attending all CCC and FAC inspections, drafting deficiency lists and preparing the certificates required for submittal to the municipalities and coordinating CCC and FAC repair work.
  • Working with other construction coordinators and leads at ISL, and assisting in, coordinating construction administration across other disciplines as required.
