Summary:

DMC is currently looking for an Project Controls Specialist to join our team at our Sudbury Location. The Project Controls Specialist monitors, controls, and reports the progress of the project ensuring the effective and appropriate integration of cost control, scheduling, progressing, change management, and estimating efforts on the project. This position will be working with site project teams to produce key metrics and reports.

Responsibilities:

  • Work in compliance with DMC’s health & safety policies.
  • Work in compliance with DMC’s project controls policies & procedures.
  • Promote and foster an environment of open and honest communication in all facets of the project controls function to ensure an effective interface with other departments such as Construction, Contracts, Procurement, and Finance.
  • Perform the cost control function to a high standard.
  • Ensure costs are committed in accordance with project budget and deliver the associated cost reporting.
  • Develop monthly cost and revenue accruals.
  • Ensure accuracy when reporting construction, subcontractor, procurement, and engineering progress and productivity.
  • Review and verify contractors’ cost/schedule control systems.
  • Coordinate, develop, and ensure that cost forecasts are prepared and integrated in accordance with the project’s requirements.
  • Maintain the project’s budget, planned value forecast, and current plan baseline schedules.
  • Ensure routine project and subcontractor schedule assessments are completed and that schedule variances are identified and reported.
  • Perform the project schedule reporting function to a high standard.
  • Interpret and define earned value metrics.
  • Ensure that systems, processes, and procedures are in place to enable the early identification, mitigation, and communication of scope changes or project delays.
  • Responsible for delivering the project change management function by developing a solid understanding of the project scope, communicating accountability amongst project team members, and effectively leveraging experience in change identification, mitigation, estimating, and scheduling to compile project change notices including their supporting backup documentation.
  • Assist in the preparation of client invoices & monthly progress reports.
  • Attend and assist with weekly and monthly meetings and associated reporting.
  • Maintain an awareness of client requirements and establish effective working relationships at all levels.
  • Advise on opportunities for Project Controls process improvement and assist with procedural creation and reviews.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of direct Project Controls experience at the junior to intermediate level.
  • Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in Engineering, Business Administration, Construction Management, Finance, or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated capacity for attention to detail and a strong aptitude for data analytics and financial modeling.
  • Flexible, continuous learner, well organized, able to address multiple conflicting priorities and be proactive.
  • Preference given to candidates with experience in Project Management, Estimating, and Engineering.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the mining industry preferred but not required.
  • A solid understanding of scheduling software. Preference given to candidates with Primavera P6 experience.
  • Expert level knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
