R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited (Burnside) is currently seeking a driven, performance-oriented Project Manager specializing in Traffic Engineering and Transportation Planning. We are looking for an individual who is not only knowledgeable but also excels in delivering results and is enthusiastic about tackling challenges in the transportation sector.

As a Project Manager at Burnside, you will play a pivotal role in leading transportation projects that involve transportation forecasting, traffic engineering, traffic impact analysis and functional road design. In this role, you will collaborate with team members across multiple offices, working on a diverse range of projects and studies. Whether based in Pickering, Mississauga, Hamilton or Guelph, you will thrive in a fast-paced, adaptive, and innovative environment. Your ability to integrate into collaborative project teams and effectively manage competing priorities will be essential.

The scope of work will include a range of transportation studies from Transportation Master Plans, Traffic Impact Studies, Corridor specific studies, intersection/signalization assessments, functional designs and parking students.

The Role

The position will involve (but is not limited to) carrying out the following tasks:

  • Project and client management services;
  • Proposal preparation and coordination;
  • Preparation and tracking of project budgets and schedules;
  • Facilitating approvals from commenting agencies;
  • Business development and ability to foster long-term client relationships;
  • Ability to mentor and further develop staff;
  • Prepare traffic and parking studies;
  • Undertake travel demand forecasting / need and justification studies;
  • Review of site plan layout and circulation;
  • Oversee operational traffic analysis including intersections, corridors and freeway segments;
  • Prepare necessary reports;
  • Oversee functional designs for roads and intersections;
  • Input to pavement marking and signage requirements for new road construction; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Professional Knowledge & Qualifications

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in transportation planning or engineering;
  • Degree in Engineering or Planning / Diploma in Engineering Technology or equivalent;
  • Working knowledge of traffic engineering software Synchro and SimTraffic or Vissim;
  • Familiarity with travel demand forecasting software such as EMME or Visum would be viewed as an asset;
  • An understanding of the Planning Act and planning processes;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills;
  • Strong analytical and data management skills;
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office Suite of programs;
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D and / or MicroStation Inroads;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and willingness to work in a team atmosphere;
  • Experience mentoring staff;
  • Ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects concurrently; and
  • A valid Ontario driver’s license and vehicle.
