This research provides ongoing, relevant, scientifically credible information on Alberta's living resources to meet the information needs of government planners, industrial developers and local communities.

Position

Working in the ABMI’s Information Centre, the Application Developer supports the architectural design, development, and deployment of many of the ABMI’s information systems. These information systems support a variety of applications, including:

  • web-based interactive map-viewers to support public access to ABMI geospatial and scientific data layers;
  • and online biodiversity and land cover reporting.

The Application Developer participates in all stages of software development for these applications, as well as researches new technologies and software solutions to guide the development of new applications, as new business needs at the ABMI emerge.

  • Support the hiring, training, and supervision of junior members of the system development team.
  • Manage workplans related to current and new software information systems.
  • Develop metadata documents and data management policies and procedures.
  • Provide technical support, input, and advice on ABMI's information systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong analytical thinking and innovation through problem solving.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge in GIS systems and geospatial analysis and online GIS tools, such as ESRI, MapBox and PostGIS.
  • Team player who can also work independently with little supervision.
