Mandatory Qualifications:

  • Aminimumrequirement of Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) registered with the Alberta College of Paramedics. Preference is given to those registered as Advanced Care Paramedics.
  • Successful completion of the University of Alberta Firefighter Physical Aptitude Evaluation. Dates will be available for testing in September, October and November.
  • A minimum of a Province of Alberta Class 4 Drivers? License is required upon the start date. Candidates must obtain a Class 3 license and Q endorsement for air brakes within the first 12 months of employment (cost not reimbursed by the employer).
  • Firefighting training to the NFPA 1001 standard and experience in an EMS system is an asset.
  • If shortlisted, the process includes written aptitude and medical knowledge tests, medical scenario testing, a behavioural descriptive job interview and psychological evaluation.
  • Before being offered employment, candidates must pass a comprehensive medical.
