Job Description

The Department of Academic Family Medicine (DAFM) is pleased to offer an academic contract opportunity for a qualified family physician with a start date of July 1, 2024.

The Family Practice Anesthesia (FPA) Program Director is responsible for the strategic development and operation of the Department’s Family Practice Anesthesia Enhanced Skills Program. The FPA Program Director, in collaboration with the Enhanced Skills Program Director and other Departmental academic and operational leaders, along with the residency program committee, oversees planning and organizing of all elements of residency training within the site, including selection of residents and training location, educational design, local policy and process development, safety, resident wellness, assessment of resident progress, and continuous improvement.

The Program Director supports and mentors other academic leaders within the training site. This individual also works collaboratively with Saskatchewan Health Authority leaders to ensure that academic program needs are met within the local health system.

The Program Director is part of the academic leadership team, sharing responsibilities irrespective of the specific job description to further the development of the overall program. This individual contributes to a positive, diverse, and inclusive work and learning environment by actively engaging in mentoring, self-awareness learning opportunities, relationship building, and communication.

Job Qualifications

The successful candidate will hold their CCFP(FPA) or FRCPC in Anesthesia and have an in-depth understanding of the needs of family medicine residents. They will have previous experience in medical education and have active or prior clinical experience in anesthesia care. Previous experience with the Department’s Postgraduate Education program would be an asset. A Master's or Ph.D. in medical education and/or previous academic leadership would be desirable.

It will be important that the individual taking on this role have a deep understanding of and commitment to diversity and inclusivity, a sincere appreciation of diverse views and perspectives and a demonstrated ability to work effectively in informal and formal teams with people from diverse communities, cultures, and perspectives.
