Hamilton, Canada Nethery Planning Full time

Apply through OPPI or the application on the company's website .

This position targets two types of candidate: somebody fairly senior in their career looking for their skills to be recognized and rewarded, or somebody ready for that next step in terms of project ownership and leadership. Your application will demonstrate fit with our team by recounting your experience in either leading planning projects or teams (or both). Success in this position could take many forms, but critically involves delivering projects on time and within budget (and proactively identifying any issues in meeting those targets), training others on the team to do the same, identifying and securing new clients, and showing kindness at every opportunity.

The successful candidate will be responsible for a wide range of land use planning tasks, oriented toward project requirements and aligned to the successful candidate's interests and experience. This could include preparing planning justification or research reports, analyzing data and presenting those results, preparing visuals or presentations to support this work, engaging with client and public stakeholders, and collaborating with clients to develop customized planning solutions. The role will involve reviewing land use regulations, preparing and evaluating development proposals (depending on the client), and coordinating with stakeholders to ensure compliance with planning policies. The successful candidate will lead, facilitate, and present at meetings and public hearings as needed--and be thrust into an immediate leadership position on our growing team.

  • Leading and mentoring the firm's Planners and Planning Assistants--growth over time will see this transition to a direct reports relationship
  • Implement the firm's business development strategy, and contribute to its update and expansion for 2025
  • File leadership, commensurate with experience
  • Leadership over the production of project deliverables (such as official plan and zoning content, planning justification reports, research reports, or analytics)
  • Oversight of project budgeting and accountability for that performance, commensurate with experience

While intended as a primarily remote position that will transition to hybrid at some point, there will be in-person requirements for client-facing meetings at their locations plus internal corporate meetings (can figure out convenient locations, but the team is based in Hamilton/Dundas).

  • A track record of success in project and people leadership, as demonstrated in your cover letter and CV
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills--the most critical component for success in this position
  • Strong analytical and research skills
  • Ability to interpret and apply land use regulations
  • Experience in developing planning policies and guidelines is an asset
  • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks is essential
  • Proficiency in using planning software and tools
  • Ability to work independently and remotely
  • Experience in the planning field in Ontario is a plus
  • Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Geography, or related field
