Rainy River Mine

Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit, gold and silver producing, residential mine site. The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario/Minnesota border is 65 kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated halfway between Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Thunder Bay, Ontario. The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear, and deer. About the Role

Schedule: 14 days on, 14 days off - 12-hour days OR 7 days on, 7 days off - 12-hour days, OR Local Resident Position

Reports To: Chief Mining Engineer

Position Overview

As an integral part of Rainy River’s technical services team, the Senior Geotechnical Engineer is responsible for overseeing all geotechnical aspects of the underground mining operation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Leadership and mentoring of the underground geotechnical team
  2. Ownership of the site Ground Control Management Plan
  3. Performing excavation stability analysis and modeling
  4. Implementing ground support design standards for underground mine development and rehabilitation
  5. Ensuring underground geotechnical routine inspections and audits are completed
  6. Involved in coordinating advanced numerical modeling studies with external consultants
  7. Monitoring and updating the long-term mine rehabilitation plan
  8. Analyzing and interpreting geotechnical monitoring data
  9. Completing various geotechnical projects, as required
  10. Trialing new technology in ground support and geotechnical innovation
  11. Providing geotechnical input for LOM sequencing, mine design, and mineral reserves
Qualifications:
  • 7 years’ experience as an underground Geotechnical Engineer
  • Bachelor’s or Master's Degree in Geological, Geotechnical, Civil, or Mine Engineering
  • Professional Engineering Designation (P.Eng) or eligible for registration
  • Experience leading a technical team
  • Experience with 3D mine design software e.g. Deswik
  • Experience with geotechnical analysis and modeling software e.g. RS3, UnWedge, Dips, FLAC3D
