Mississauga, Canada Myant Inc Full time

At Myant, we are creating the world’s first expressive and continuous digital presence platform, enabled by integrating technology directly into clothing and augmented by other devices, wearables, and IOT. We see the evolution of society where every member gets to participate from anywhere and anytime through a whole-body experience, mostly in a passive or ambient manner to foster ubiquitous accessibility. Humans have a fundamental desire and need to be connected to our environment, family, community, and technology. This level of connection will create a paradigm shift in the way we deal with each other, especially from afar, allowing for more meaningful relationships, and more in-depth representation of ourselves.

The vision for SKIIN - our first consumer-facing brand - is to enhance human ability through connected clothing and textiles. Skiin is in beta-phase market launch and has been recently granted Health Canada medical device license and submitted to FDA for regulatory approval in the US market. The sensors and actuators embedded within our apparel create your Digital Identity, which will be consumed by those who matter to you - your family members, physicians, trainers, other IoT devices - without you consciously having to think about it. The line between the digital and physical world is becoming increasingly blurry and we believe textile is the next medium to bridge that gap.

We are a multi-disciplinary technology team solving big challenges at the intersection of electronics, deep tech, software, design, advanced manufacturing, and data science.

Role:
We are seeking a Junior Hardware Verification Engineer to join our Electrical Systems Development team at Myant, reporting directly to the relevant hardware and firmware project leads as required. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in electrical engineering, with hands-on experience in verifying the correctness of digital hardware designs. You will work closely with the design and validation teams to ensure our products meet the highest quality and performance standards. This position will be primarily on-site.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop comprehensive electrical and firmware testing protocols on Myant’s smart textile devices based on internal and external safety and performance standards.
  • Set up and operate specialized and standard test equipment to diagnose, test, and analyze the performance of electrical and electronic components, assemblies, and systems.
  • Develop firmware unit testing scripts to automate verification of firmware performance using standard unit test libraries.
  • Design, build, and program testing platforms for automated product testing using available development platforms and software.
  • Conduct reliability testing to assess the durability and longevity of electrical components and firmware algorithms under various environmental conditions.
  • Identify and troubleshoot electrical and firmware issues, utilizing diagnostic tools and methodologies to isolate root causes and implement effective solutions.
  • Generate detailed test reports and documentation, documenting test procedures, findings, and recommendations for improvement.
  • Building and testing of prototypes according to general instructions and established standards.
  • Install, operate, and maintain electrical and electronic equipment and systems to ensure accuracy and reliability in testing processes.
  • Collect and compile operational or experimental data and assist in preparing estimates, schedules, specifications, and reports.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, designers, and product managers, to develop and refine testing procedures and requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a college or university program in electrical or electronics engineering/technology, computer engineering/technology, telecommunications technology, or equivalent.
  • Experience with bio-signals such as ECG, EEG, PPG EMG, etc., and/or medical device hardware development.
  • Proven experience in designing and executing electrical test procedures and troubleshooting, preferably in the consumer electronics or wearable technology industry.
  • Proficiency in setting up and handling custom testing equipment for electronic hardware devices in addition to standard electrical testing devices such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
  • Basic electrical engineering knowledge with experience in developing basic electrical systems utilizing standard platforms like Arduino or R-Pi and hardware development tools such as Altium, Eagle, KiCad, etc.
  • Familiarity with firmware development processes and testing concepts using C (Unity, Ceedling, Cppunit) and Python (pytest), including firmware flashing, debugging, and version control.
  • Experience with utilizing regulations and standards such as FDA, IEC, Health Canada, CSA, and ISO for the development of testing methodologies.
  • Adept at thoroughly documenting issues observed during test execution, with a meticulous approach to recording test results, discrepancies, and recommended corrective actions.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to methodically approach complex technical issues.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information with different types of engineering disciplines from electrical, firmware, mechanical, and textiles.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks and priorities effectively.

What we offer at Myant:

  • Employee stock options
  • Paid Sick Days and Floating Days
  • Group Health Insurance Plan
  • RRSP matching Plan
  • Corporate Events
  • Exposure working in one of the most innovative and forward-thinking tech companies.
