Vancouver, Canada T-Net British Columbia Full time

As we continue to grow at Clio, we are seeking an International Compliance Analyst to join our Compliance team within the Engineering sub-organization. As a part of the team, you will have extensive opportunities to collaborate with members of legal, engineering, product, and security teams at Clio in order to deliver upon the responsibilities listed below.

This role focuses on expanding our compliance scope into the legal software domain, ensuring adherence to the broader set of regulations required by bar associations and law societies internationally. A variety of functions and practices of a law firm will be the focus including, but not limited to: trust accounting, security, conflict checks, privacy compliance, and disclosures relevant to the practice of law.

There will be two different types of day-in-the-life: One where you will be acting as the subject matter expert, gathering legal-technology context and sharing insights into Clio's ability to deliver upon technological requirements of legal professionals. The other will include conducting independent research into product compliance requirements, auditing functionality and available material to help advance Clio's mission to transform the legal experience for all.

What you'll work on:

Legal Software Compliance: Developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive legal software compliance program, ensuring alignment with regulations established by bar associations and law societies. Staying up to date with functionality requirements including, but not limited to: trust accounting, client confidentiality, reporting, data retention.

Regulatory Research: Exercising research, curiosity, and wayfinding skills to find and document the regulatory requirements legal professionals are bound to across Clio's jurisdictions. Staying up to date with evolving professional, regulatory, technological, and ethical standards set by bar associations and law societies worldwide, mapping regulations into actionable product compliance targets for product and engineering teams.

Policy and Content Development:Collaborating with technical and marketing teams to draft and update guidance and documentation that operationalizes customer software use requirements into appropriate configurations and settings.

Risk Assessment: Conducting risk assessments to identify potential compliance gaps in legal software operations, taking into account the unique regulatory landscape of the legal profession. Proposing and implementing mitigation strategies.

Audit and Monitoring: Establishing and conducting regular audits, as well as monitoring activities to ensure ongoing compliance with legal software regulations outlined by bar associations and law societies. Generating annual state of compliance reports and guidance for internal and external stakeholders.

Collaboration: Working closely with legal, engineering, and product to advise upon software compliance for the legal profession, aligning broader organizational compliance initiatives.

What you bring:
  • An understanding of relevant laws and regulations, including those related to client confidentiality, conflicts of interest, and trust accounting
  • A healthy curiosity around AI and AI implications
  • Clear communication skills, with the ability to convey nuanced technological requirements to stakeholders and audiences of varying familiarity to the concepts
Bonus points if you have:
  • Previous experience with use of legal software and relevant professional demands from technology

What you will find here:

Compensation is one of the main components of Clio's Total Rewards Program. We have developed a series of programs and processes to ensure we are creating fair and competitive pay practices that form the foundation of our human and high-performing culture.
