Calgary, Canada Mainroad Chinook Contracting LP Full time

Mainroad Chinook Contracting LP is seeking a dedicated Heavy Equipment Technician to join our expanding team In this position, you will play a vital role in the upkeep and repair of our highway maintenance fleet. This position is based out of Calgary, Alberta, and will report to the Mechanical Supervisor.

Who we are:

Mainroad Chinook Contracting LP has been awarded a contract by Chinook Highway Operations Inc., a joint venture between SNC-Lavalin Operations & Maintenance Inc. and Acciona Concessions Canada (2008) Inc. This contract covers maintenance services such as road repair, snow removal, and lighting upkeep for the Southeast Stoney Trail (SEST). The SEST Project represents a public-private partnership (P3) between the Alberta Government and Chinook Roads Partnership, marking one of Alberta’s most significant P3 highway infrastructure undertakings. What you bring:
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent).
  • Alberta Certificate of Qualification or Interprovincial Ticket as a Mechanic – Heavy Equipment Technician preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Heavy Equipment Technician (Mechanic).
  • Completion of the Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program (CVIP) or ability to obtain within 3 months.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License required. (Valid Class 3 Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement preferred).
  • Previous experience maintaining and repairing highway maintenance/snow removal equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Motor Vehicle Act and Regulations.
  • Ability to work shifts, call-outs, weekends, and overtime as required.
  • Willingness to work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Capable of performing heavy physical labor.
  • Leadership skills and ability to mentor an apprentice.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Positive attitude with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Safety-conscious, dedicated, and committed.

This role involves a range of job duties, which include, but are not limited to:

  1. Repairing and maintaining a wide range of company vehicles and equipment in accordance with established standards.
  2. Maintaining knowledge and skills to effectively handle all aspects of the job.
  3. Providing cooperation, service, and respect to co-workers, customers, and the general public.
  4. Coaching and mentoring apprentices and other assigned employees.
  5. Producing complete and timely records and reports as required by company policies and guidelines.
  6. Ensuring all assigned tools and equipment are accounted for and properly maintained.
  7. Performing other related duties and special assignments as required and assigned.
