Position Overview:
The Solar Designer at Infinity Solar Group plays a key role in developing initial solar proposals to the sales team, then translating signed sales proposals into detailed designs and permit sets that meet all regulatory requirements. Reporting to the Administrative Manager, this role is responsible for ensuring a smooth and complete handoff between the sales department and our project management software. The Solar Designer will work with industry-standard design software and internal templates to create accurate, high-quality solar designs that support the sales and permitting teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Solar Design & Proposal Creation: Collaborate with the sales department to create initial solar designs and proposals that align with customer needs. Utilize industry-standard design software and internal templates to develop accurate solar system layouts.
  2. Technical Support: Provide technical expertise to the sales team, ensuring that all designs are feasible, optimized for performance, and cost-effective.
  3. Permit Set Translation: Upon contract signing, convert sales proposals into detailed permit sets for the permitting team. Ensure all designs comply with relevant codes, standards, and regulations. Utilize equipment manufacturer design tools and processes when applicable for certain materials.
  4. Handoff Coordination: Ensure a smooth and clear handoff between the sales department and the administrative and project management teams. Translate designs into the appropriate software systems for ongoing project tracking and management.
  5. Collaboration with Administrative Teams: Work closely with the administrative team to ensure that all necessary documentation and designs are prepared for permit submission and project execution.
  6. Documentation: Maintain detailed and accurate records of all designs, proposals, and permit sets. Ensure the only documentation translated to the administration and operations team is up to date and accessible to relevant team members.
  7. Software Utilization: Use industry-standard design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, SolarGraf, Aurora) and internal templates to create and modify solar designs. Stay updated on the latest tools and techniques to enhance design quality and efficiency.
  8. Administrative Support: Provide additional support to the administrative department as needed, including assisting with permit submissions, coordinating with local authorities, and other related tasks.
  9. Continuous Improvement: Stay informed of the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in solar design. Continuously seek opportunities to improve the quality and efficiency of the design process and standard operating procedures.

Qualifications:

  1. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Renewable Energy, or a related field, or equivalent experience in Design-related training.
  2. Experience: 2-4 years of experience in construction design, electrical design, or a related role. Experience in residential and commercial solar projects is a strong plus.
  3. Skills:
    1. Proficiency in solar design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, SolarGraf, Aurora).
    2. Strong understanding of solar energy systems, including electrical and structural considerations.
    3. Excellent attention to detail and ability to produce accurate and high-quality work.
    4. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    5. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    6. Familiarity with local permitting processes and regulations is a plus.
    7. Certifications: NABCEP certification or other relevant certifications are a plus.
