Wood is currently seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer

Wood is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Eastern Canada Operations team in St. John’s, Newfoundland who will apply extensive and comprehensive knowledge of electrical engineering and design principles and practices to the organization’s services. The Engineer will plan, schedule and design broad and technically complex engineering assignments requiring judgment, independent evaluation, selection and significant adaptation and deviation from standard techniques and procedures.

  1. Perform engineering design and related duties, including:
    1. Power system studies
    2. Equipment specifications and selection
    3. Management of vendor / equipment suppliers
    4. Power distribution layouts
    5. Grounding, cable distribution design, schematic diagrams and other aspects of the electrical design
  2. Detailed design for both medium and high voltage indoor/outdoor substations, primarily for electric utility companies
  3. Preparation of one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, control schematics, wiring diagrams, relay panel arrangements, and cable schedules
  4. Provide mark-ups of existing substation schematic and wiring removal drawings (as applicable)
  5. Perform basic calculations such as voltage drop, CT burden and saturation, short circuit, relay setting calculations and protection coordination studies
  6. Assist with construction supervision as well as the commissioning of industrial electrical systems
  7. Identify scope and schedule changes in accordance with the Change Control Process
  8. Maintain and plan cost control for all scopes of work
  9. Ensure that designs comply with the relevant Codes, Standards, Regulations and Procedures
  10. Provide technical assistance to discipline assigned personnel, as required
  11. Review, check and approve work output of discipline assigned personnel, as required
  12. Prepare estimates and schedules as well as assisting in their review
  13. Ensure Health and Safety and environmental regulations are followed methodically
  14. Electrical Engineering Degree from a recognized university
  15. Eligible for registration as a professional engineer with PEGNL
  16. 10+ years direct relatable experience
  17. Ability to provide technical leadership for the electrical components of multi-disciplinary projects – proven experience in the electrical team leading
  18. Experience with ETAP or similar software design tools are considered an asset
  19. Familiarity with Canadian electric utility industry practices
  20. Solid knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, and CSA Standards and Local Codes
  21. Attention to detail and pride in work quality
  22. Excellent verbal, written communication skills
  23. Strong client focus
  24. Resourceful team player with self-starter aptitude
  25. Current authorization to lawfully work in Canada without sponsorship from Wood is required
