Our client is a mid-sized consulting firm located in the GTA and has focused on data and analytics, and systems integration for close to 20 years.

They live and breathe data and enjoy taking on challenging projects that help their clients achieve tangible results. Brainstorming at the whiteboard they come up with innovative solutions to data and analytics needs, and achieve results rapidly.

Role Description

This is a full-time role for a Practice Manager, Data Engineering. The Practice Manager will be responsible for leading and managing a team of data engineers, growing the practice, and establishing processes and procedures to ensure the successful delivery of projects. The role will report to the Vice President of Delivery. This is a hybrid role located in the Greater Toronto Area.

Major Areas of Responsibility

  • Manage a team of data engineers including developing, mentoring and retaining talented project consultants and assist with successfully delivering projects.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders (technical & non-technical), including senior management, to provide updates on projects and ensure that goals are achieved
  • Work closely with other teams such as Data Science and Analyticsto understand their data needs and build systems to support their work.
  • Manage project timelines ensuringthat projects are delivered on time and making sure that the work produced by your team is of high quality and reliable
  • Help R&D initiatives and find new approaches to improve work efforts.
  • Collaborate with sales teams to review and approve approaches, proposal content and project plans as it relates to your practice.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • 2+ years of experience in leading a team of Data Engineers including performance management, mentoring/coaching and growing your team.
  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience working with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and experience with cloud migration.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer, building data pipelines and warehouses,with experience in programming languages like Python, SQL, and frameworks like Spark.
  • Familiarity with modern data engineering languages and platforms, such as Databricks or Snowflake.
  • Excellent communicator, able to speak to all levels of an organization
  • Degree, inEngineering fields or related industry experience or acumen.
