POSITION SUMMARY

Ontario Shores is currently seeking an Occupational Therapist with primary responsibilities in the Trauma Stress Clinic and First Responder Assist Clinic in the Outpatient Services at Ontario Shores. The Occupational Therapist will possess sound knowledge of clinical work in the area of mental health and addictions, particularly in the delivery of services using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT). The Occupational Therapist will also possess an understanding of and commitment to serving the psychological needs of Public Safety Personnel/First Responders. Responsibilities include: psychosocial assessments; individual, group and family/couple therapy; clinic work, liaison with community social agencies; active involvement as a member of an interdisciplinary team and planning to meet the recovery needs of the discharging client.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED AND PREFERRED

  • Registered with the College of Occupational Therapists in good standing
    • Current CPR-HCP is required
    • Completion of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) training preferred
    • Certification or current enrollment in Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) preferred
    • Certification and competency in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) preferred
    • Demonstrated knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery
    • Experience working with Public Safety Personnel is preferred
    • 3-5 years psychiatric experience in a mental health facility or service preferred
    • Application of and experience with evidence-based manualized treatment modalities, specifically CBT, CPT, and IPT
    • Demonstrated knowledge of the regulatory College standards of practice
    • Demonstrated knowledge of Mental Health, and relevant policies and legislation, such as the Mental Health Act and PHIPA is required
    • Knowledge and experience of the challenges involved in community reintegration of short and longer stay psychiatric inpatients
    • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
    • Demonstrated competence in individual, group and family therapy and crisis intervention skills
    • Knowledge of psychotherapy in a clinic format is essential
    • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and effective oral/written communication skills
    • The ability to work with clients of diverse ethno-racial and cultural backgrounds and proficiency in a second language would be considered an asset
    • Ability to perform the physical demands of the position
    • Variable hours may be required due to patient demand
