Position Summary

Under general supervision, provides nutritional counseling to referred paediatric inpatients and outpatients and their families according to the guidelines established by the department and the Hospital. Instructs paediatric inpatients and outpatients and their families concerning nutritional requirements, food planning and preparation and the importance of modified diets. Maintains liaison with medical, nursing and other healthcare workers concerning problems affecting the patients' food habits and nutritional well-being.

Shift Rotation/Hours of work: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Days - 08:30 to 16:30

University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC) is the largest Acute Care facility within the Northern Health region, and a hub for specialized health services. It's also a teaching hospital:
• Provides undergraduate physician training through the Northern Medical Program, run by the University of British Columbia and University of Northern British Columbia.
• Hosts residents in UBC's Family Practice Residency Program
• Is a key clinical education site for nursing and many health sciences students at UNBC, the College of New Caledonia, BCIT and other institutions.

• Patient care addition with an expanded emergency room and updated ICU
• State-of-the-art maternal-child care centre (including a single room neonatal ICU)
• Facilities to accommodate undergraduate physician training
• MRI unit

Qualfications
•Bachelors degree from a recognized university with majors in dietetics or nutrition and completion of a dietetic internship recognized by the Dietitians of Canada and the College of Dietitians of British Columbia.
•Registered member of the College of Dietitians of British Columbia.
•Reserved Acts A & B are required for the position
•Experience in inpatient and outpatient paediatric counseling is highly recommended.

Skills and Abilities:
•Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with paediatric outpatients and their families.
•Ability to coordinate activities and maintain liaisons between medical staff and paediatric outpatients.
•Ability to work independently, quickly and accurately within time limitations.
•Ability to keep abreast of current developments and research in the field of paediatric nutrition.
•Physical ability to perform duties of the position.
