Mobile Nurse – Ref #2024-116

Job Summary:

The Approaches to Community Wellbeing is a regional resource to 31 First Nations communities. The Approaches to Community Wellbeing provides expertise, support, services, and programming in community wellbeing (public health) to the region. The program also supports communities in the development, implementation, and monitoring of their own Approaches to Community Wellbeing.

The Mobile Nurse is directly accountable to the Community Wellbeing Nurse Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Persons of First Nations ancestry will be given preference (OHRC, Part II, Special Employment)
  • Current Registration in good standing as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) with CNO.
  • Registered Practical Nursing Diploma or Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing BScN from an accredited University.
  • At least two-years of work experience as a Registered Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse
  • Previous work experience in public health and/or First Nation community an asset
  • Current CPR certification
  • Valid G class driver’s license
  • Ability to perform requirements of the role on a regular basis

Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Deliver health education, remotely and in-person, on various public health topics including COVID-19, influenza, routine immunization, sexually transmitted and bloodborne infections, mental wellness, nutrition, and physical activity. This may be done through:
    • Radio Shows
    • Meetings allowing Q&A Sessions
    • Social media – Facebook lives and postings
    • Workshops and presentations
    • School visits, and age-based presentations
  2. Work with the community to conduct needs assessments and community planning.
  3. Engage with community leadership, health director, and nursing staff to travel into communities to conduct COVID-19 testing, education, case, and contact management.
  4. Administer the COVID-19 vaccination, seasonal influenza, and routine age-based immunization in compliance with SLFNHA medical directives. Immunization reporting of COVID-19 vaccinations into COVAX.
  5. Participate in cancer prevention and screening: breast, cervical, and colorectal through education and FIT Kit delivery.
  6. Assist with Sexually Transmitted Blood Borne Infections (STBBI) and Tuberculosis (TB) education, and Tuberculin Skin Tests (TST) as per medical directive.
  7. Provide the assessments of well baby/child exams, utilizing ASQ child development screening tool, administering routine child/adult immunizations, and providing healthy teaching and health promotion for families.
  8. Attend home visits according to SLFNHA policy to support wellness checks as requested.
  9. Build community relationships and participation in community events.
  10. Support a team environment and collaborate with other ACW programs and community-based programs and workers.
  11. Arrange logistics of trips into communities.
  12. Complete mandatory training.
  13. Use Mustimuhw (EMR) for data entry, charting, and reporting.
  14. Handle sensitive and confidential information in accordance with office policy and PHIPA.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned and additional community support as requested.
