Building Inspector (Level 2 or 3) (2024-22)
  • Full-time
  • Division: Building
  • Department: Development Services
  • Vacancy Status: Full-Time

Mission is located on the unceded, ancestral, and shared territory of the Stó:lō Peoples, specifically on Leq’á:mel, Semá:th, Máthexwi, Kwantlen, Sq’éwlets, and Katzie traditional territories in the lower mainland of BC. Nestled on the southern coastal mountain slopes overlooking the lush Fraser River Valley, Mission is a rapidly growing and dynamic community of approximately 41,500 residents, 20 kilometers north of the US border and 70 kilometers east of Vancouver. Although Mission is part of a broader metropolitan area, it still maintains its distinct and welcoming small-town flavor.

Are you ready to apply your building construction expertise and building code knowledge in a way that contributes to quality buildings and construction? Are you prepared to broaden your knowledge and involvement in all aspects of the building inspection process? If so, this may be the job for you

The Development Services Department is looking for an experienced and customer service focused individual to join the building inspection team on a full-time basis. As a member of the team, you will review building and construction plans, issue building permits and perform on-site building inspections.

Under the supervision and direction of the Building Inspection Supervisor, you will ensure that design and materials used during the construction, renovation and alteration of buildings within the Community are compliant with the provisions set out in the BC Building Code, specifically Part 9, BC Plumbing Code, Mission’s Zoning Bylaw and other municipal bylaws, policies and procedures.

We are looking for an individual with a keen ability for critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills and focus on high quality outputs and results. With a confident and composed demeanor in all work situations, you will have the ability to develop and maintain positive and collaborative working relationships with a broad variety of stakeholders.

You will have completed grade 12 and possess a Diploma in Building Technology from a recognized technical institute or you will have experience at the journeyman level in one of the building trades. You will be a qualified (or certified) Level 2 Building Inspector or higher with BOABC. Level One Certification with the Plumbing Officials Association of British Columbia, or the ability to achieve this certification within 6 months of appointment is preferred. A valid Class 5 BC driver’s license and a clean driving record are also required.

This position will be approximately 70% plan review and 30% on-site inspections (subject to change based on operational requirements).

The current hourly rate of pay for a Level 2 Building Inspector is $52.01 and 55.00 for a Level 3 Building Inspector. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package including the Municipal Pension Plan and a commitment to ongoing training and career development. The current shift is Tuesday to Friday from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm (four, nine-hour shifts; 72 hours bi-weekly).
