Job Description

As a Dairy Farm Worker in Canada, you'll be an essential part of the dairy industry, contributing to the production and maintenance of dairy products.

Responsibilities
  1. Animal Care:
    • Provide daily care for dairy cattle, including feeding, watering, and monitoring their health and well-being.
    • Assist with the birthing process and provide postnatal care to newborn calves.
    • Administer medications and vaccinations as directed by the farm veterinarian.
  2. Milking Operations:
    • Operate milking equipment and machinery to milk cows efficiently.
    • Ensure proper milking hygiene and sanitation standards are maintained.
    • Monitor milk production and identify any abnormalities or issues with milking equipment.
  3. Barn Maintenance:
    • Clean and maintain barns, milking parlors, and other farm facilities.
    • Bedding management: Ensure clean and comfortable bedding for cows.
    • Repair and maintain farm infrastructure, including fences, gates, and feeding equipment.
  4. Field Work:
    • Assist with pasture management, including rotational grazing and field maintenance.
    • Harvest and store feed for winter months, such as hay and silage.
    • Operate farm machinery for tasks like mowing, raking, and baling hay.
  5. Record Keeping:
    • Maintain accurate records of herd health, production, and breeding activities.
    • Keep track of inventory, including feed and supplies.
    • Follow farm protocols for data entry and record-keeping systems.
  6. Health and Safety:
    • Follow farm safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
    • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, including gloves and boots.
    • Report any safety hazards or incidents to farm management promptly.
  7. Teamwork and Communication:
    • Work collaboratively with other farm workers and management to achieve farm goals.
    • Communicate effectively with coworkers to ensure tasks are completed efficiently.
    • Provide support and assistance during busy periods and times of high workload.
Requirements
  1. Experience: Previous experience working on a dairy farm is beneficial but not always required. Training may be provided on the job.
  2. Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects and working in various weather conditions.
  3. Animal Handling Skills: Comfortable working with livestock and handling dairy cattle safely and efficiently.
  4. Mechanical Aptitude: Basic knowledge of farm machinery and equipment operation is advantageous.
  5. Attention to Detail: Ability to follow instructions carefully and maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
  6. Communication Skills: Effective verbal communication skills to interact with coworkers and follow instructions from farm management.
  7. Flexibility: Willingness to work irregular hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, as dictated by farm schedules and seasonal demands.
