Position Summary: This course will examine current policies and "best practices" related to assessment and evaluation as informed by recent research and relevant Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum, policy, and supporting documents. Teacher Candidates will differentiate between assessment and evaluation, and between marking, grading and reporting. Teacher Candidates will build foundational pedagogical knowledge for evaluating and reporting student progress and achievement using the Elementary Provincial Report Card and the Elementary Progress Report. The course will also examine the role of large-scale assessments and develop knowledge and skills for analyzing and interpreting their results. Course content will focus on evaluation and reporting policies and practices appropriate for learners in Kindergarten to grade 6.

Successful candidate will work with the course lead in order to provide consistency across sections.

Assets for a successful candidate: Doctoral degree in education or related discipline; post-secondary teaching experience in teacher education; Experience teaching Assessment and Evaluation courses at the post-secondary level; Teaching in Ontario schools at the K-grade 6 level; School leadership experience in assessment and evaluation

Qualifications – Required: Master’s degree in education or related discipline; Bachelor of Education and/or K – 12 Teaching Certification; K – 12 teaching experience

This appointment is in accordance with the Contract Teaching Faculty and Part-time Librarians Collective Agreement , for which the Wilfrid Laurier Faculty Association (WLUFA) is the exclusive bargaining agent.
