Qualifications and Occupational Experience:
- The minimum educational qualification for this position is an advanced diploma and/or a degree in oceans technology, marine biology, and/or oceanography. A degree in sciences or engineering, paired with experience working in the marine/oceans sector might also be considered.
- In addition, you have successfully completed training and/or hold certifications in the operation of small vessels (i.e., up to 15 gross tonnage or 12 meters overall length), marine emergency responses, marine small crane and winch operation, and general marine safety.
- First aid training and/or certification would be considered an asset. A recreational scuba diving certificate would also be considered an asset.
- You have a minimum of two years (full time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience in a research environment which includes fieldwork.
- Occupational experience that includes exposure to ocean-related research operations at sea and in a laboratory or workshop setting, and operation of the following equipment: small boats; Remotely Operated [underwater] Vehicles (ROVs); Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS); underwater cameras; and other oceanographic instruments, would be considered an asset.
- You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite, E-mail.
- You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology in advancing your work.

- You are a strong communicator both written and oral
- You possess excellent coordination skills specifically related to organization and logistics of research fieldwork at sea.
- You have proven records and information management skills and abilities specifically related to small vessel operations.
- You have strong project management skills.
- You are dedicated to life-long learning about the marine environment.
What you'll be doing
- You will provide technical assistance for projects led by SEATAC Project Managers and/or Research Scientists. This involves assisting with day-to-day operations of a project to meet the research objectives and commitments with collaborating partners and funding agencies.
- On a daily basis, you may be working on one or more research projects. This position may conduct fieldwork in support of data acquisition missions which may require both indoor and outside working environments. Outside field assignments may be both ashore and at sea.
