Responsibilities and Duties:

A Senior Architectural Designer is responsible for the design and technical systems for mid and large-complex projects from schematics through construction administration. This is a supervisory position and past supervisory experience is required.

  • Designs projects and/or review architectural or engineering plans, specifications and contract documents to ensure compliance with codes, specifications and interdisciplinary integration.
  • Provides technical expertise in the development or review of policies and procedures in relation to architectural structures and systems and construction/safety codes.
  • Works with customers and clients to gather facts, define design and space planning problems, conceptualize possible solutions and secure approvals of proposals.
  • Manages all phases of architectural projects, including project set-up, design, and construction administration.
  • Reviews product literature, analyzes materials and determines appropriateness for application to projects.
  • Provides advice and develops design documents to initiate and modify architectural, interior design and space planning solutions.
  • Performs design drafting including preliminary drawings, working drawings and full detail drawings for architectural, structural, and mechanical works associated with building construction or improvement projects.
  • Provides finish selections including color palettes, carpet and wall finishes, lighting, and other interior selections.
  • Creates and communicates clear and attainable project objectives and project requirements for the leadership team.
  • Reviews Subcontractor's shop drawings to ensure compliance with specifications and contract agreements by checking them for technical accuracy according to accepted guidelines.
  • Prepares and monitors project status reports.
  • Researches literature and maintains knowledge of current building materials, structural, mechanical and electrical system codes and methods of application.
  • Prepares and/or reviews preliminary designs, working drawings, specifications and cost estimates related to the project Conduct material and product research as required for project development.
  • Attends project meetings as necessary.
  • Interfaces with other discipline team leaders.
  • Documents interpretation and submittal reviews during bidding and construction administration.
  • Monitors junior staff to produce quality architectural and engineering services within a project team concept.
  • Supervises junior staff and delegates tasks to staff as needed;
  • Formulates schematic plans, elevations, and exterior renderings to be practical, esthetic, and conducive to enriching brand strategy as well as balancing budgets and brand values.
  • Estimates material requirements and costs and present the design to the client for approval.
  • Deals with complex situations and resolve client issues and concerns.

Job Requirements

Requirements:

  • Completion of a two or three year college program in architectural design, architectural technology, or a related subject.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in the A/E industry. Industrial project design experience preferred.
  • Must have at least two years’ project management or other relevant supervisory experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of all aspects of professional services from schematic design through project close-out, including design and technical expertise.
  • A comprehensive understanding of all design disciplines' coordination aspects and related requirements.
  • Proficiency in 2D and 3D AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency in Revit.
  • Proficiency in Adobe programs such as Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Experience in BIM 360.
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Software.
  • Strong organizational, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent English communication skills both written and verbal. The ability to speak multiple languages is considered an asset.
  • Highly motivated with superb interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work with constantly changing priorities.
  • Must be able to work under pressure with tight deadlines.
  • Must have superior time management skills and the ability to multi-task with multiple projects.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and attention to detail.

  • Hold a valid driver’s license with a good driving record
  • Be willing and able to cross the border, for the required support of our US or Canadian customers
