ROLE PURPOSE

This position will provide assistance to residents with activities of daily living, medication assistance and tasks as may be delegated.

STATUS AND CLASSIFICATION
Union. This position is open to applicants of all genders.

SHIFT HOURS

Part Time - Candidates 32 Hours/Week. Friday - Monday

REPORTING AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reports and is accountable to the Bedford Manor Program Manager or their designate
  • Functions as a multi-disciplinary team member
  • Establishes and maintains good interpersonal relations with residents, staff, visitors and volunteers, by displaying tact, courtesy and patience
  • Respects and maintains the spirit, dignity and individuality of residents and their families
  • Liaises with the staff and managers of Connective as necessary

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provides assistance to residents as required (both scheduled and unscheduled), for assistance with activities of daily living including:
  • Bathing & hygiene
  • Grooming
  • Mobility
  • Transferring
  • Eating, including cutting food
  • Toileting
  • Support services, including cueing and reminders
  • Follows the established resident comprehensive service plan, at all times working with the resident regarding preferred times, and method of service assistance
  • Performs delegated tasks once receiving training by Registered Nurse and demonstrating competence in the performance of the task
  • Provides unscheduled housekeeping assistance as required
  • Provides companionship to isolated residents, and maintains knowledge of all activities being provided, facilitates and encourages resident participation
  • Assists residents with personal laundry as requested
  • Assists residents to access the dining room, and provides take away meals as directed by the Assisted Living Leaders
  • Assists with dining room service as required
  • Reports any changes, concerns, and observations
  • Maintains records required regarding resident care, medication management, changes to care and support needs, and resident refusals for established routines
  • Assists with transfers to and from hospital
  • Discusses changes in resident support requirements with Assisted Living Leaders
  • Facilitates the transition for new residents to Bedford Manor, helping them to learn about their new housing environment, the services and resources available
  • Interacts with residents in a manner that respects their individual rights and dignity, ensuring privacy and confidentiality are maintained at all times
  • Attends staff in-service and continuing education programs, and approved work-related conferences and seminars
  • Performs other related duties as required

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Functions independently, while remaining a crucial member of the support team
  • Carries out significant amounts of lifting, bending, stooping and stretching
  • Works within a social model approach
  • Handles confidential/sensitive material with integrity and discretion
  • Adheres to Connective’s policies and procedures
  • Is available to work flexible hours during the daytime, evenings, and weekends based on operational needs and requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Care Aide/Community Health Worker certificate
  • Registered with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry
  • One (1) year recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience

REQUIREMENTS

  • Criminal Records Checks
  • Emergency First Aid
  • WHMIS
  • Complete immunization history
  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19
  • Recent TB skin test results

COMPENSATION

The wage range for this position is $25.95 to $29.76 per hour as per collective agreement.

Important: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, observe their weekly hours limit if under a temporary or study visa, and provide proof of eligibility if selected for the role.
