Your future role at BBA

As Senior Engineer, Rock Mechanics, you'll work as part of a dynamic, multidisciplinary geotechnical team. You'll be involved in all project stages, from feasibility studies to construction.



An overview of your mandates and responsibilities

  • Carry out field campaigns, including activities in support of drilling and excavation supervision, soil and rock description and sampling.
  • Help plan, monitor and interpret geotechnical investigations.
  • Describe (composition and structure) and geomechanically classify rock samples.
  • Participate in design studies (stability, infiltration and deformation analyses of exterior or underground rock walls).
  • Participate in the process of preparing and presenting proposals
  • Prepare reports, plans and technical specifications.
  • Supervise construction sites, which involves surveying and making geological recommendations regarding stratigraphy, structure, geomechanical classification, support and bolting, etc.
  • Communicate effectively with clients about work progress.
  • Follow up on administrative aspects of your files.
  • Ensure budgets and schedules are respected.
  • Travel to work sites within Canada and, occasionally, overseas.

Overview of job requirements

  • B.Sc. or master's degree in mining engineering, technical geology or civil engineering, with a focus in geotechnical engineering
  • Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec
  • Ten or more years of relevant professional experience in geotechnical engineering
  • Strong academic background and solid understanding of soil mechanics
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills, technical-writing experience and presentation skills
  • Strong soft skills and the ability to work well on a team
  • Mastery of geotechnical design software (FLAC, SLOPE/W, SEEP/W); other geotechnical software an asset
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites
