Assistant Professor or Lecturer

The Department of Family Studies and Gerontology is seeking candidates with expertise in the area of family studies and gerontology for a 9-month term appointment at the Assistant Professor or Lecturer level commencing August 15, 2024. Workload includes teaching and collegial service. The successful applicant will be expected to reside within reasonable commuting distance of the Halifax Regional Municipality to successfully meet the teaching and service requirements of this role. The teaching load is three 0.5 unit courses in each of the Fall 2024 and Winter 2025 terms, for a total of three units, and may include supervision of one or more graduate theses. The courses will be taught on campus and online. The successful candidate will be required to teach courses in Family Science such as parent-child relations, resilient families, interpersonal communication, and family life education.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a PhD. in Family Science or its equivalent and teaching experience at the undergraduate level as well as research/community involvement. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated teaching competence in these areas and proficiency and excellence in teaching online and in the classroom.
