Our client is searching for a results-driven and forward-thinking Controller who not only brings a wealth of financial expertise but also has the ambition and capacity to evolve as the company continues to grow. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Financial Management & Corporate Accounting

  • Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, receivables, and general ledger activities. Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and year-end financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders. Reporting, interpreting and communicating the results of operations to all levels of management.
  • Drive various financial and operational analysis, investigating variances and driving actionable insights for the business. Developing financial reporting that supports business needs.
  • Continually evaluate and enhance financial reports and operating metrics to support decision-making.
  • Lead the analysis of financial results by working with others to set expectations, understand drivers, analyze results, and explain exceptions.
  • Collaborate with IT to automate tasks where possible to create efficiencies and process improvements.
  • Providing leadership and management for all accounting operations, including Inventory control, Invoicing, Accounts Receivable, Credit Management, Accounts Payable and Payroll
  • Responsible for ensuring an efficient month-end close process, reconciliation of all material accounts, and compliance with applicable statutory regulations.
  • Identify and evaluate the impact of new accounting pronouncements and accounting issues arising in the business including research and analysis as well as documentation and conversations with external auditors and management.
  • Review payroll outputs prior to processing to ensure accuracy.
  • Compliance: Stay abreast of regulatory changes and ensure compliance with accounting standards. Implement and maintain effective internal controls.

Budget Development

  • Collaborate with leadership team to manage KPIs. Provide insightful analysis on financial performance and variances.
  • In conjunction with both the CFO and leadership team, partner with the business in preparing and assessing annual budgets and business plans.
  • Proactively identify risks to the business and establish tracking and reporting structures to address and mitigate risks.
  • Guide financial decisions and ensuring a strong control environment through the development and implementation of accounting and controls policies and procedures.

Team Leadership & Relationship Management

  • Lead and mentor the finance team. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Direct the activities of staff, ensuring on-going work quality, monitoring workloads, and ensuring activities continue to be managed during staff vacation/sick leaves.
  • Coach, develop and provide performance management to a team of direct reports and identify opportunities for development and training.
  • Develop and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with staff and leaders across the organization to ensure financial deliverables are meeting the needs of users/decision-makers, resolving issues, and ensuring financial policies, practices, and procedures are being followed.
  • Interact with the Leadership Team for regular communication of key financial information, trends, and analysis and act as a trusted business advisor to other areas of the business.

Strategy/Growth

  • Play a key role in financial forecasting, identifying trends and potential areas of growth. Provide strategic recommendations based on financial analysis.
  • Contribute in Leadership Group meetings as required, providing financial information and contributing in other areas as appropriate
  • Employ a continuous improvement mindset, assessing and implementing improvements to financial tools and business processes.
  • Support Company growth by evaluating potential opportunities with the use of financial models, assisting with IRR’s for both expansions or other capital projects, designing and executing new market due diligence

Tax

  • Coordinate all tax matters with tax providers, including compliance, planning, and oversight of all tax audits.
  • Represent the company externally to government agencies and other external stakeholders.

Must be adaptive to change and able to perform other duties as assigned to respond to the evolving nature of the Company and the Finance function.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Education & Experience

  • University Degree with a business, finance, or accounting focus
  • CPA designation
  • 5+ years of accounting and finance experience (including corporate accounting, financial reporting, budget and forecasts preparation, as well as the development of internal control policies and procedures)
  • 3+ years of people management experience
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process.
  • Application of technology and processes as they apply to streamlining and enhancing department and organizational performance.

  • Exceptional ability to deconstruct and analyze information relevant to financial analysis
  • Strong business acumen and an analytical mind
  • Above-average analytical and critical thinking skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Understanding of business processes, internal controls, risk management, cash management, and income/sales taxation
  • Able to view business strategically and drive detailed and operational level activities
  • Able to find innovative and creative solutions to solve complex problems and consider impacts on multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment.

Relationship and Communication Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to operate and communicate at a senior level, but with a "hands-on" approach and comfortable with managing detail
  • Ability to interact with external parties on a regular basis, including external auditors and other various relationship managers
  • Interact confidently with members of the leadership team on a daily basis
  • Team player, willing to help with the development of others in the finance group
