Our Biologist plays a key leadership role in the development and training of biologists and technicians and the delivery of professional biological services. Our Biologist works closely with internal staff, clients, agencies and other resource managers to produce professional deliverables, recommendations, prescriptions, plans and reports concurrently on multiple complex and technical resource management projects.

Strengths Required:

Our Biologist must be able to coordinate, produce and supervise the production of accurate professional deliverables with particular attention on quality, time and cost parameters, both independently and in a team environment. Our Biologist must possess effective management, mentorship and leadership skills, and efficient coordination of resources (human and technical), be reliable, personable, organized, logical, customer service oriented and be an effective communicator with clients, colleagues and other professionals. The individual must be interested in tackling increasingly challenging projects and tasks, including business development.

Qualifications 
  • Registered as an RPBio with the College of Applied Biology 
  • Experience working in applied biology for at least 5 years
  • Physically fit and interested in mentoring in the field year round
  • A positive team player who is passionate about working in the outdoors and possesses strong communication skills and leadership qualities
  • Comfortable liaising with clients and being involved in business development
  • Experience managing projects
  • Enthusiastic about traveling by 4x4 pickup, helicopter, boat, ATV/UTV
Responsibilities:Safety:
  • Maintain and ensure a high degree of personal safety and safety for all crew under supervision.
  • Participate and support SNRC’s OH&S Program by personally adhering to and enforcing safety standards (including SWP &JSB).
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory safety and professional standards legislation.
  • Ensure the Emergency Response Plan of each assigned project is understood and followed by the crew.
  • Ensure crew are properly trained and certified for the tasks assigned.
  • Ensure effective communication methods (radio etc.) with crew, transportation providers and others in the area.
  • Work regularly in adverse weather conditions and steep, brushy terrain.
  • Travel safely by truck, boat, ATV, float plane and helicopter without issue.
  • Maintain personal health and fitness in order to conduct fieldwork regularly and efficiently
Quality & Professionalism:
  • Maintain professional designation and taking the necessary steps to continue professional development.
  • Perform and/or supervise field and office work to professional standards, including; compiling field data into professional reports. Develop recommendations that meet current environmental standards as well as client needs.
  • Ensure a clear understanding of the project’s scope and standards is held and maintained by the team. 
  • Maintain responsibility for the content and quality of personal work and that of subordinates and coworkers.
  • Ensure quality, standards and production goals are met or exceeded individually and for field crew under your supervision.
  • Develops and designs sampling using current standards and scientific design.
  • Prepares and reviews reports that meet appropriate scientific standards.
  • Ensure complete and accurate field data gathering by field teams for projects that are developed under a Biologist’s scope on independent scope of practices.
  • Demonstrate and mentor a strong understanding of operational and biological issues, provide sound defendable solutions, ensuring due diligence has been met.
  • Must be proficient in supervising external contractors.
  • Ensure complete, high quality, timely and accurate packaging of the team’s deliverable products to the specific standards of the project.
  • Participate in the training of coworkers, sharing work experience and improving their technical skills.
  • Participate in camp shifts as required and is flexible with schedule in order to meet deadlines and deliverables.
  • Report on the status of completion of projects or on significant issues that may arise and offering options to address problems.
  • Be able to clearly present findings/papers to community round tables, working groups, conferences and other public forums.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor or management.

$1,200 Signing Bonus for 5+ year professional with designation.
