Roles, Responsibilities and Qualifications

Role Description

  • Scrum Master acts as a project manager throughout the initiation, planning, execution, control and close-out phases of the project management life cycle, and is responsible for the management of the agile sprint process for a scrum team.

Responsibilities

  • Provides team leadership, guidance, and mentoring in agile principles, policies, and procedures.
  • Assists with adopting strategies as part of a multi-disciplinary agile team.
  • Facilitates on-the-job learning of essential concepts and tools that promote the adoption of modern service delivery and transformation within the GoA.
  • Manages and navigates changes in direction, including priorities and expectations, to ensure successful completion of sprint sessions.
  • Manages communication to improve transparency and disseminate information.
  • Leads and facilitates key agile ceremonies, including planning sessions, stand-ups, product demos and retrospectives.
  • Negotiates agreements regarding resource requirements to expand/collapse the agile team as needed to meet commitments.
  • Negotiates changes to agreed commitments with the DIO to ensure the agile team delivers within acceptable timelines.
  • Ensures the agile team achieves the correct level of commitment through negotiation with the DIO.
  • Identifies and removes roadblocks and distractions that affect sprint commitments and prevent delivering of product features.
  • Mitigates conflict and ensures resolution.
  • Enables the agile team to become self-organised and empowered to deliver consistently on sprint session commitments.
  • Maintains metrics using project management tools to provide visibility on product level plans, progress and quality assurance.
  • Participates in field work and user research as part of a cross-functional agile team.
  • Other responsibilities as required or requested.

Qualifications A) Experience In Agile Software Development Methodologies.

  • Experience leading and mentoring team(s) in agile principles, policies and procedures.
  • Experience with one-on-one and team coaching.
  • Experience leading and facilitating key agile ceremonies, including planning sessions, stand-ups, product demonstrations and retrospectives.
  • Experience with agile product management tools (e.g. Jira, Kanban, Taiga).
  • Experience planning work that aligns to product owner priorities.
  • Experience with software development.
  • Experience with agile projects, preferably in or for a public sector organisation.
  • Experience with web development, user-centred design and UI best practices.
  • Experience developing and maintaining working relationships with multiple clients and stakeholders, including negotiating agreements and resolving conflicts.
  • Industry-recognized Scrum Master certification.
  • Experience working with teams that also apply UX design, service design, design thinking, or human-centred design approaches.
