Child Witness Worker/Volunteer Coordinator-Full-Time Permanent

Timmins and Area Women in Crisis (TAWC) is a dynamic, community based feminist organization, which providesservices on intimate partner abuse and sexual violence to women and theirchildren in the Timmins area. TAWC works within an integrated feminist,anti-racism, anti-oppression framework.The agency administers a sexual assault centre, an emergency shelter aswell as second stage housing to abused women and their children.

We are looking for a dynamic and highly motivated woman to join our teamin the capacity of Child Witness Worker/Volunteer Coordinator in a Permanent position atTimmins and Area Women in Crisis .

The ideal candidates will demonstrate thefollowing:

Qualifications:

Post-secondary degree/diploma ina relevant field

Solid understanding of feministideology and anti-racism/anti-oppression principles

Experience in providing crisis intervention,support, information, and referrals to survivors of sexual violence

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office,including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Strong written and verbalcommunication skills

Understanding of the social service sector andprovision of non-profit service to the community

Ability to organize and carry out programming,groups, activities, and events

Demonstrated sound judgment, problem-solving,conflict resolution, crisis intervention, advocacy, and mediation skills

Must be able to do lifting/carrying

Must have flexible work availability

Must possess a valid Class G driver’s licenseand own a reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage

Must undergo a vulnerable sector criminalrecord check

MainResponsibilities:

Coordinate andco-facilitate specialized trauma-informed individual and group support to womenand children and youth who have witnessed/experienced violence

Provideone-on-one crisis intervention to support women who intake with children

Work with womento develop a general support plan to ensure her children’s needs are met duringtheir shelter stay and upon discharge

Provide youngerservice users and women with a variety of recreational and social activities

Advocate onbehalf of the woman and her child/ren as required

Support thedelivery of programs in elementary schools, libraries and/or other communityspaces

Link women andtheir dependents to appropriate community partners

Accompany and advocate for clients as needed.

Link women to appropriate community referrals.

Coordinate and facilitate community groups and meetings

Oversee the recruitment, orientation, and supervision of volunteers

Build relationships within the community to facilitate donations

Manage donations for the clothing program and clients

Complete various administrative tasks

Attend and participate in fundraising and awareness-raising ventures

Liaise withcommunity partners 

Participate inagency and community events

TAWC has a COVID-19 Vaccination Policy that requires individuals to take part in COVID-19 vaccination programs recommended by Public Health, unless they are approved for a medical or human rights accommodation from TAWC. Compliance with this policy is mandatory for this position.
