Industrial Mechanic (Millwright)

Department: Maintenance

Reports to: Maintenance Manager

Terms of Employment: Full-time (40 hours per week) permanent position

Location: Hamilton, Ontario

Overall Responsibilities:
  1. Maintain, inspect, and repair components and systems such as bearings, gears, clutches, couplings, belted and shafted drives, gearboxes, air compressors, pneumatic systems, natural gas-fired burners, heat exchanger system, AC/DC motors, Safety PLC’s and related controls, pumps, conveyor systems, automated and semi-automated production equipment.
  2. Completing preventive maintenance requirements on equipment
  3. Identify issues and determine root cause of malfunctioning equipment
  4. Perform basic welding and machinist tasks
  5. Participate in all site safety programs and support all company policies and procedures
  6. Respond to emergency requests for maintenance (after hours/weekends as needed)
  7. Utilize vendor support to learn proper equipment cleaning and maintenance practices
  8. Monitors pre-treatment bath chemical composition and adjusts in conjunction with the Technical Director
  9. Completes maintenance records and maintains operating logbooks and databases as required
  10. Maintains control of plant tools, manuals, repair parts, assemblies, and consumables
  11. Research equipment manuals and requisition repair parts. Identify and assist in sourcing/purchasing parts
  12. Demonstrate the ability to make competent decisions in emergency situations
  13. Maintain inventory of spare parts and consumable parts for equipment
  14. Works from elevated areas such as ladders, platforms, scaffolding, utilizing fall protection equipment as necessary to complete tasks
  15. Applicant must be a highly motivated individual willing to work flexible shifts depending on workload in a team-orientated environment with minimal supervision
Qualifications:
  1. Previous experience in a similar role and/or industry with a minimum of 5 years
  2. Millwright or Electrician trade designation is an asset
  3. General understanding of:
    • Over-head cranes
    • Hydraulic lifting equipment
    • Furnace and heat exchangers
  4. Welding experience
  5. Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced team environment
  6. Problem Solving skills
  7. Ability to read technical drawings
  8. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
  9. Proven track record of punctuality and dependability
  10. Positive and professional attitude under pressure
  11. Proficient in Excel, Outlook, Word

Education: College Diploma, University Degree, or Skilled Trade Certificate

Minimum High School Diploma combined with equivalent work experience and education including licenses/certificates in one or more related trade disciplines
