Cost Accountant

Westbrook Greenhouses Ltd. in Beamsville, Ontario has two fully automated greenhouses with almost 1,000,000 square feet of combined greenhouse space. Westbrook is a large supplier of quality potted plants to the North American wholesale and retail mass market.

The Cost Accountant will review and approve product costs, and do ongoing analysis and development of new product cost and margin analysis. This role involves implementing cost accounting processes, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and providing insights to improve financial performance and operational efficiency.

*KEY RESPONSIBILITIES*
* Review and approve cost entries in ERP system;
* Analyze production costs (labour, materials, etc.) to ensure accurate product costing;
* Develop and maintain labour, overhead rate calculations;
* Prepare and review cost variance analyses, identifying and investigating variances to provide insights and recommendations corrective actions;
* Analyze and make recommendations for cost savings on outbound transportation;
* Prepare standard recurring reports and ad hoc reports/financial analysis as required to support decision making;
* Develop cost estimates for new products;
* Conduct regular inventory audits to verify accuracy and compliance with company policies;
* Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and the annual financial plan, providing updated cost forecasts as required;
* Develop, document and implement cost accounting procedures and policies;
* Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.

· *QUALIFICATIONS*
* Post secondary degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline;
* Completion of CMA designation/actively working towards CPA designation an asset;
* 3+ years’ experience in cost accounting, preferably in a manufacturing or production environment;
* Prior ERP implementation experience preferred.

* Strong verbal and written communication skills;
* Ability to work independently and cooperatively with team members and other departments;
* Proficient in MS Office with intermediate-advanced Excel skills;
* Proficient in accounting software and ERP systems.
